Quaint Italian Restaurant in Greenville Area 2/21/2010

My companion and I visited Pietro's this past Saturday night to celebrate. We were greeted by a waitress as we came in and Pietro himself came out as well. I had asked to be seated in the porch area, but we were seated in the back room. That wouldn't have been bad except there was a large birthday party back there already. Alyson was our waitress and was both friendly and very helpful. We had asked for samples of a wine and she both back two generous samples and then assisted further in our wine selections.. We placed our orders - Veal Champagne and Lasagna with Meat Sauce and I optioned for the Caesar salad while my companion got the dinner salad. Then things went sourth. A second larger birthday party came in complete with cameras and people moving around. While I will note they have a wonderful room for parties, seating a couple back with the large parties was an inconsiderate move on the part of the acting hostess. We could not talk freely because of the noise level, being bumped as people walked about and ducking flashes from cameras. . \r \r The salads arrrived and yes, my salad looked brown BUT it was because of the dressing not because it was old or wilted. The homemade Caesar dressing was flavorable but I had too much of it on my salad. The breadsticks were diappointing in anyone can buy them in the cracker aisle of a grocery store.\r \r Our meals arrived and I will say the lasagna with meat sauce was wonderful as was the side of spaghetti accompanying my meal. The Itaiian bread served with the meal was hearty on the inside and crusty on the outside. Exactly the way it should be. I did enjoy that the veal was very lightly breaded and not covered in a heavy overpowering breading. The champagan sauce was delicately balanced. The only fault I could find with this dish is the sauce was too delicate for the veal, but this could be a person preferance as I prefer distinct sauces as one would find with marsala or piccata. Which by the way, they did offer to make Veal Piccata even though it was not found on the menu.\r \r We finished the meal with Amaretto Cheesecake. I must say, I found its taste more like a Grand Mariner cheesecake I had once tried, with undertones of orange and lemon. The consistency was very good, but I was expecting a more almond taste.\r \r In summary, there was nothing so wrong that I would not recommend this lovely establishment to others. The only thing I would say is for couples to ask to be seated in either the porch or main dining area.. And to ditch the cheap breadsticks! Pros: Friendly staff, generous portions, atmosphere, parking Cons: Please read review.... more
