Patron Beware! 10/7/2010

My son and I took a jacket in to have some patches sewn on, one of which was to be sewn on the breast pocket. We explained that he still wanted to use the pocket after the patch was sewn on (Duh!). The young shop girl said that she understood, and that she would take care of it. Upon picking up the jacket we noticed that the pocket had been sewn shut by the patch. She apologized saying she had ?told her three times?, and that she would have the patch redone. I asked how much the total bill was and she told me $21.50 (for 5 patches). I confirmed this by looking at the receipt before we left. When I returned the next day the patch problem had been fixed, and the owner of the shop (the shop girl was nowhere to be seen) handed me the receipt. Where ?$21.50? had been written by an ink pen the previous day, $29.00 was written over the ink in marker! (Sharpie type). I asked why the price change and he mumbled something about cutting and re-sewing. I explained that MY SON shouldn?t have to pay for a mistake which HE made. He then changed his story, saying that the price had been $29.00 all along. I asked him why the total on the receipt was written in Big Black Marker, and not in pen ink like the rest of the receipt, inferring that possibly someone was trying to hide what was written in ink underneath the marker. He then (and, get this?) held the receipt up to the light, squinted at the writing in marker and said to me,? It says $29.00 underneath?. And then slapped the receipt back down on the counter, seemingly pretty proud of himself. I looked at the customer behind me, and she just rolled her eyes. I continued to explain to the owner that I felt he was cheating my son, and that he should only have to pay the original bill of $21.50. After which he just kept repeating, ?$29.00 - $29.00 - $29.00? over and over again, holding my sons jacket as hostage. I then realized (as I?m sure he already had) that the jacket was worth more to my son than the $7.50 he was trying to cheat him out of. I made up the difference in the bill, took the jacket, and left, never to return (Duh!). He is no longer cheating my son, but I am sure he is cheating someone. Could it be you now? more
