Good bread and Spicy food 9/21/2009

Mostly Indian restaurants in Minneapolis are understandably targeted to the American customers. So, even if someone wants hot spicy Indian food, it is tough to get such satisfactory food. Although I am not a big fan of hot spicy food, one of the friends in our group went there likes such spicy food and he got what he wanted. It is mainly a north Indian cuisine and my friend is from Punjab, where, apparently, they like their food very hot and spicy. Rest of our group is also not much into hot spicy and we ordered mild to medium and we were all very satisfied. We ordered Kulchas, Naans and rotis (different kinds of Indian bread) and all of them were well made. We has to order some mango lassis (Indian smoothies based on buttermilk and mangoes) and they were really good. They even made the Lassi the way our Pujabi friend wanted (Plain buttermilk with salt, cumin seds and pepper). Food came with rice like in many other Indian restaurants, but it is not just plain rice. It is Jeera rice (rice spiced a little bit with Cumin seeds). We had Vegetable Samosas, Non-Veg Samosas (which is really good), Veg Pakodas and Non-Veg Platter for appetizers. Except for the Pakodas I liked everything else. We had Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Kadai Curry and Chicken Vindaloo for Entrees. All of them were good (but I couldnt enjoy one of them as my friend wanted it really spicy). Best part of the experience is the service. Apparently they had grumpy old lady earlier. Now they hired a young girl who is very friendly and nice to everyone. The place is really small and they could use some better plating and glasses. Apart from that I didnt see a problem at all. We were 6 of us (1 from North India, 2 from West India, 1 from South India and 2 from Midwest-America). All of us liked the food and time there. By the way, we paid almost 18 dollars (including tips) for our meal/dinner. Pros: Spicy (if you want it), good Indian bread, good Lassis Cons: Very Small restaurant, could use better plates and glasses more
