Where to begin? First off, as a fairly regular NYC diner, I've sadly come to realize that good food usually comes with lousy, unappreciative service. I wisely checked with citysearch before making my reservation and after reading all the reviews wondered, ""can it really be? good food and good service under one roof?"" My mother and I went to Roth's tonight after a broadway play and were completely pleased. I was stunned that the waiter not only came by the table several several times to see if everything was alright but the manager came by to check as well. And we didn't have to wait 20 minutes between finishing a course and waiting for the dishes to be cleared or waiting for the check. The service was kind, attentive and prompt. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and was very clean, even the bathrooms (which can be a nightmare in even the nicest establishments). I found the prices to be reasonable for a steak place and was happy with the meal. (The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was that I ordered my steak well done and it was more medium.) Nonetheless, it was a wonderful and leisurely evening and the jazz music was great. Comfortable volume level where one could still conduct a conversation without straining to hear. And the musicians were so appreciative of our applause, it was actually cute. I will definitely return!
