happy people, little substance 11/30/2009

I have attended this church a few times, most recently last weekend. There was a baptism, so two families were really the focus of the first part of the service. The church members seemed to know both families well. The first one was a couple renewing their baptism. They seemed pretty blissed out. Then, there was a family being baptized for the first time--parents and a total of 4 kids. They were more grounded, but also very happy. It would be helpful to have better guidance for newcomers. There's no bulletin or order of service. I was given a flyer with ads when I walked in, but no indication of how the service would flow. On the other hand, the service is very much praise and worship--song, song, song, pray, preach, song, etc. There isn't much ritual, which I missed greatly. Without the ritual and other aspects of a traditional service, I felt both times I attended like the service was all about the pastor. He is a good speaker and had some relevant points. His theology seems to be conservative, but not deep. Pros: free coffee and tea Cons: no guidance for newbies more
