Get everything in writing before they send you out for an assignment. My account manager gave me a job that she said would pay $16/hour, but when I received my paycheck it was only $15/hour. When I called, she wasn't there, so the receptionist forwarded me to another account manager who quickly got defensive without investigating first. She angrily told me ""I'm sorry you misunderstood the pay. If you heard wrong then there's nothing we can do about it."" Mind you, she did not research anything first-she just immediately accused me of misunderstanding. I didn't call to start a fight--I simply asked why the paycheck wasn't the amount they said it would be. Within a few hours, my original account manager called me back and said it was a data-entry error which they fixed, and they will cut me an extra check for the difference. She was very nice but did NOT apologize, and instead accused me of having a temper. Again, accusing me of something that was factually wrong without bothering to investigate what happened first. In fact, I never lost my temper but her coworker did.
Yes, I understand that everyone makes mistakes, and even before calling them I had assumed that my pay was a simple mistake that they would easily fix. But instead of apologizing, everyone's first reaction at Headway was that I had heard wrong or I was trying to extract an extra $1/hour from them. Think about this if you're considering working for Headway. You wouldn't accept this kind of immature, defensive behavior from an employee----so why would you take it from an employer?
