I made an appt. @ Hoshi Coup II this Sunday @ 5:45pm. I was there on time and was received by Akemi who was to cut my hair. She began with a long shampoo as my hair was a mess and this was extremely relaxing. Initially, she had a lady translating when I sat down, she asked what I was looking for and how do I usually cut my hair and how long since my last cut? I let her know that it had been almost 2 months and that I typically comb my hair straight down. They then asked me if I use styling was or gel? I replied sometimes. I let them know I was here for something new or at least a break from the hair cut I had.
She then began to prepare for the cut, initially, I thought Akemi was very new as she took some time, kind of sizing my hair up. She then took a long time around my temples/forehead and seemingly cut nothing. She continued cutting and picked up the pace as well. She then asked if it was too long and I replied no, that all was ok. She then finished up on me and washed my hair again, it was only then that I could see that she was amazing. Probably due to my Chinatown haircuts, I noticed that my hairs were long and looked strange around my temple. I guess this happens when you ask for only scissors-haircut and they switch to a machine later on. Akemi has an eye for things; I then though I should shut up cos she knows her stuff. In the end I had the best haircut of my life. I felt it inside me. I had spent time looking online at various other salons; I was ready for the $60 or $80 sticker price. After all, I was spending $20 in Chinatown plus tip and tips for the super long relaxing shampoos and massages. But this Sunday at Hoshi CoupeII, and the very end, the woman in charge said $40. I smiled, said thanks to all and gave Akemi $15 for just being who she is. One thing I did pick-up reading the salon comments was that your stylist should be the only person handling your hair, washing and cutting. Akemi is the It girl for me @ Hoshi Coupe II.
Pros: Late hours on weekends.
Cons: Minimalism , cool music playing low, relaxing zen-like atmosphere
