not welcoming:( 6/8/2008

My family and I went to the buffet so that we could experience ALL of the dishes because we were unfamiliar with Indian Cuisine and were hoping to find a new restaurant to add to our line up of favorites. Well, upon arriving, we walked in to see a 'please wait to be seated' sign, so we waited...it was very awkward...the owners looked at us and kept going (I had recognized them from an add in the Pflugerville Pflag)...finally one of them seated us, but didn't say a word. We were seated along the far side wall of the restaurant, with the other 3 caucasion patrons in the place. I felt 'segregated'..it was very uncomfortable. We were stared at quite a bit by the other Indian patrons as if we were intruding on a family reunion. We sat and waited for a drink order to be taken or SOMETHING..but no one said a word to us, so we decided to just start getting our food from the buffet, and I tried to get a little of everything to get the full experience. Let me say that there were a few things I liked, but my children wouldn't eat anything. It was really spicey, which I'm ok with knowing that is traditional for Indian food, but there was absolutely NOTHING for the kids other than maybe white rice and fresh fruit. I will say I enjoyed the breads and the eggplant dish...but I felt so awkward just 'being' there, it made it hard to really take my time and discover the flavors. After we were finished, NO ONE came to us to deliver a ticket to pay...we sat and sat once again, unitl my husband had to go ASK to pay. We left with a sense that we just made a huge mistake in trying something new and a large dent in our wallet (the adult buffet was OVER $11)! I would probably recommend this place if you are a native of India..those patrons probabaly thoroughly enjoyed their meal), but NOT for newcomers :( Too bad. Pros: buffet...you can try anything Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE! more
