Respect: a thing of the past? 4/24/2008

My boyfriend and I traveled to this shop in separate vehicles to get an estimate (damaged car was mine). He arrived first to get the process started, and I joined the conversation a few minutes later. \r \r As the gentleman who assisted us was of foreign descent, I tried to disregard the constant physical touching (which began even before an introduction) and the barrage of inappropriate personal questions/comments as we waited, and the estimate was reasonable, but when I started asking about the projected hours of labor and how many days the job would take, the manager turned to my boyfriend -- eight years my junior, never owned a car, let alone dealt with a body shop or insurance company -- and laughed about how "women don't understand these things".\r \r Cultural differences aside, I am not aware of ANY situation in which calling your prospective customer an idiot is a good way to boost sales. Goodbye, Hilton. more
