Dr. Ahn isn't the only one who doesn't address women 10/1/2008

I'm also a patient of Dr. Ahn. My experience with her has been positive, however, her male physician's assistant, Matt Cobb thinks he knows more about a woman's body than she does. I was in Dr. Ahn's office with symptoms of pneumonia, something that I've had before. My symptoms weren't as severe but knew what would happen if I didn't get on top of the breathing and unproductive cough, breath shortness, chills, fever and listlessness. \r \r Dr. Ahn wasn't available so I saw Matt. He thought I had indigestion (something I've never had before and would know the difference between my lungs and stomach). Matt prescribed a minimal and quite insufficient course of antibiotics and only one (no refill) for albuterol rescue inhalant. When I saw Matt I also complained of a very sore ear canal and reduced hearing. He looked in my ear and said he didn't see anything. I am uninsured and as such pay for everything, including insufficient healthcare and additional time to find another caregiver. \r \r I went to another doctor who agreed my symptoms both breathing and ear problems. I've been successfully treated for pneumonia and swimmers' ear. I don't like giving Dr. Ahn a bad rating for Matt's inability to believe a female patient. I actually went to Dr. Ahn because she's a woman. In the future, when bringing my business to a woman doctor - - I will insist to be seen by her. Matt, while pleasant in demeanor, was noticeably dismissive of the symptoms I presented. I cannot recommend him or Dr.Ahn as a result. Pros: I'm a woman and prefer to be treated by a woman - hence my referral to Dr.Ahn Cons: Men PA's or doctors still don't listen to woman about their bodies and health. more
