We stayed in ""Robert's Retreat"" which was very run down and dirty. There was no telephone so we had to use our cell phone to call the front office and tell them that the internet didn't work. The TV was at least 20 years old and the screen was orange-ish. Furniture was garage-sale quality. The chair was covered with a sheet. The beds were old. We found pest excrement in the kitchenette cupboard. There was leftover foodstuffs in the kitchen and even shampoo in the shower (from a previous tenant?). Workers seem to live in the 'rooms' all around and they hang out smoking. The front gates to the property do not actually lock and the room did not seem secure either. While the neighborhood seems to be gentrifying, it is not a place that I would walk at night. Breakfast in the main house was meager and cheap: scrambled eggs, Wonderbread toast (1 slice), melon, and 1 slice of bacon. \r

The upside: They let us bring our dog. It cost $60. \r

Our one-night stay cost nearly $300. You can stay at a really nice hotel in Houston for that much.
