Our favorite Italian place in Chicago 7/7/2006

My husband knows the owners, Sal and Rosanne Perry, so going here for dinner was convienent. Even so, the food is incredible. Mrs. Perry designed the dining area to look like your grandma's kitchen (vintage wood floors), cozy, warm and inviting. The second floor is better for parties of 6 or more, and boasts a beautiful bar. Yes, you will have to wait a bit for your food, since everything is made to order, but personally, I'd rather have incredible food than food prepared quickly that doesn't appeal to my tastebuds! Recommended dishes include the homemade gnocchi and raviolis, and you absolutely MUST have someone in your party order the portobello chicken- it's to die for! Chicken and portobellos cooked with a sherry wine sauce- AH! So good! You can't swing a dead cat without hitting an Italian restaurant in Chicago (I know, I grew up there), but take my advice- avoid the trendy choices and go with RoSal's. My husband proposed to me after a dinner there (Mrs. Perry asked if he wanted her to do something special for us- how's that for ""coming home""?), and our bridal party and family had dinner there the night after the wedding, so obviously, RoSal's holds sentimental value for me. But it's really the food and the atmosphere that keeps us coming back. Pros: Homey atmosphere, great food at reasonable prices Cons: If you don't want to wait for great food, go to Taco Bell more
