I always enjoyed going to Disneyland as a kid, and now that I'm adult, I'm very pleased to find it every bit as magical as the first time I went.
I never go in the summer or on weekends, which are no doubt insanely crowded. In January and September, lines are very short, the staff seems to be relaxed and the costumed characters are more personal with the kids. Food prices are expensive, but no worse than any other theme park. It's also much cleaner than my last trip 5 years ago.
For the best possible experience, go during the aformentioned months and stay between mon-fri. I'd recommend coming to the park later in the day at least once, so that you have some energy left to enjoy the park's beauty at night. Don't forget to buy tickets in advance and take advantage of multi-day/family discounts!
