High price low quality 12/12/2006

We have used Carpet Exchange for many years until our last purchase for a home we were preparing for sale. We spoke with a sales person so that was the person we had to talk with when ever we had a question. The estimator quoted us what we thought was a higher price than the price we estimated in the show room. There was some talk about the quality of the pad that added to the cost. The sales person apologized for the confusion and assured us he would honor the first price and include the higher quality pad at no additional cost. When the installer came to the house it was obvious that the pad was of a less than steller thickness. \r I speak spanish so I asked the installer about the pad and he told me he was instructed to bring the cheaper pad for the job. Again, the sales person was not available on the day of installation so we had to wait for his return to settle the question. Two days later the installer returned with the same pad. His helper showed up later with the better pad after a flurry of phone calls. \r As it turned out we had been using Carpet Exchange under a different owner or management style. The name has been changed. It had, in the past, a niche for high quality products at good prices. The turn around was quick. Now it is like a Lowes or Home Depot kind of operation with a much larger selection. In my opinion it is full retail. As a full retail shop I don't think there is a problem, but for sure it is not a bargain. Pros: Larger selection Cons: Full retail pricing without the service more
