Open throughout / after Katrina 9/4/2005

As a neighborhood ""anchor,"" Johnny White's remained open under deprived (and possibly depraved) conditions following the devastating hurricane Katrina which flooded all N'Orleans. Johnny White's staff remained working, serving as able, beverages and hospitality to all managing to reach this lone haven. With delivery transportation impossible, neighboring/colleague ""hospitality"" businesses relayed their stocks, likely already considered an insurance loss, to Johnny White's who operated without the usual amenities of ""civilisation,"" grid electrical power, city water, city sanitation, according to a BBC (British Broadcasting Corp) Sun. Sep. 4, '05 radio news report covering the aftermath of the hurricane which crippled the Gulf Coast. ""Unless we get run out at gunpoint by enforced national guard evacuation, we're staying"" an interviewed bartender stated. ""We made it through the worst. Why leave now?"" [no explanation was given on how the interview was obtained considering land telephone and cell towers all were out of service]. more
