Has all the right things about a near-century old red sauce Italian place, but some traditions should be axed. The red sauce is the basis on which this restaurant is built, and it's a fine ""red gravy"", rich with spice, pork and oil. The problem is the pasta, made on site. The spaghetti is more like spaetzle, a thick dumpling-like doughy extrusion that is stiff as a board and just awful. The lasagna is no better. The sausage is fantastic, a huge serving for just $2, and the meatballs are ok. Buca di Beppo spends millions to emulate places like this, but it just seems tired. The service staff is tired, inefficient, and irritable; these places thrive on friendliness but you won't find it here. My suggestion: buy some of their great sauce and sausage, cook up your own pasta, and make a great meal at home!
Pros: red sauce, sausage, downtown Louisville
Cons: bad pasta, terrible service, bad bread
