The action, of course, comes in the evening, when a (mostly) great lineup of diverse regional acts, including Fredy Omar, the Iguanas and Anders Osborne, propels this cavernous bowling alley into the dance-party stratosphere. (I know they're popular, but couldn't we do without the Bags of Donuts and Bucktown All-Stars?) But Mid-City succeeds nearly as well as a laid-back neighborhood hangout/bowling alley in the early evening hours, especially if you want all the bowling and the camaraderie without the pesky crowds.
