I like a good, cheap haircut since I can't afford much more than cheap. The problem is, more often than not, you get what you paid for. It's hard to get an up-to-date cut for a low price. I've gotten my hair cut by a few people who work at this Hair Masters, but the only person that had me walk away satisfied was Kelli. She's not very talkative or bubbly, but she's fast and knows what she's doing. I recommended Kelli to my sister and she really likes her too. (She might be Kelly, not Kelli...I'm not sure, but I guess it doesn't really matter too much.)

The dim sum at the House of Hong Restaurant isn't the best that I've had, or the most creative in terms of unique dishes, but it's not too bad, is very spacious, and has its own parking. The place drew an impressive and diverse crowd the day I went for lunch (dim sum is served until 4:30pm, I believe). If you like Chinese food, it doesn't hurt to try the place out, especially if you're going in a big group because their tables can seat large parties.

I want to preface this by saying that St. Francis Memorial Hospital is a great hospital to go to. They were very helpful and efficient when I came in sick and didn't have a local doctor. However, the low rating is because of the confusion regarding my insurance. I remember giving them my insurance card to make a copy, but somehow it got lost or there was a miscommunication between the emergency room and the medical office because they kept sending me bills that insurance should have covered. They also got my address wrong even after I corrected the mistake. The mess lasted for several months and got to be quite a nuisance.

Even though Olive Garden is a big Italian restaurant franchise, it doesn't cheapen the value of the food and the atmosphere. The Italian villa-inspired building construction and decor, black and white photography, and elegant music add to the quality of the dining experience. It's a good place to go to satisfy that craving for pasta; everything on the menu sounds good. I highly recommend asking for alfredo sauce to dip your breadsticks in--the bread's free, the sauce costs extra, but it's so worth it. If there aren't any authentic Italian eateries in your town, there's a good chance an Olive Garden is nearby.

I'm not too picky or critical when it comes to food, and I'd say the Sizzler menu is decent (steak, chicken, salmon, fish and chips, shrimp, etc.). However, first impressions mean a lot, and since drinks are served before the food, I better be satisfied with what I ordered. On a family outing, my sister and I both asked for lemonade. The day being sweltering hot, it seemed like the perfect thirst quencher. To our dismay, we were given glasses of murky water with a hint of lemon. We were appalled at their poor excuse for good ol' fashioned lemonade. How can anybody fail at squeezing lemons? How could anybody be so cheap? And how did anybody think they could get away with it?

I've always considered beauty services to be too expensive to be worth it, especially when I don't have the money to burn. However, sometimes a girl needs some pampering. I came across Silk Nail Salon in my search for quality and affordable manicures and pedicures. They also have waxing services amongst other things. Both "quality" and "affordability" are difficult to find together when it comes to salons, but somehow I discovered it at Silk. Their service is professional and the salon itself is clean, pleasant, and well organized. It's not your posh spa experience, but at $30 for a Brazilian wax and $27 for an hour-long lotion pedicure, I'd say it's a lot of bang for your buck.

Applebee's is quite similar to Red Robin, only slightly more subdued. The lighting's dim and the walls are covered in local memorabilia, following their "neighborhood grill" theme. It's more than a fancy fast food joint because they serve less burger and fries, more steak and potatoes. I find myself preferring Applebee's over Red Robin when I don't feel like eating in a noisy setting and don't want to run into anybody I know from high school.

Red Robin is a popular West Olympia hangout. It has a lively and energetic atmosphere, making it a prime spot for large groups of young people because it's nicer than a fast food place, yet it's still affordable. Not to mention there's something on the menu to satisfy every craving: gourmet burgers, pasta, nachos, chicken strips, cheese sticks, cocktails, and the too-much-for-one-person desserts...to name a few of my personal favorites. For birthdays, the staff comes over to sing, and the birthday boy/girl gets a free sundae.

Chopsticks is a trendy noodle house that is all about presentation, from the contemporary Asian-inspired interior decor to the dishes served. It's what I like to call "fashionable" Asian cuisine, but it's still satisfying nonetheless. This is a good restaurant for anybody, but it is especially good for those unfamiliar with Asian food and would like to expand their horizons a bit. They also serve bubble tea, the popular drink with tapioca pearls.
