Unlike other garden centers I've reviewed, Spring Meadow Farms is more of a farm store that specializes in plants for the garden in spring. They have a decent selection of annuals and perennials--less stock than many places, but the plants are healthier than any you'll find at a chain store. But mostly I go because it's such a fun outing--a short drive into the country in northern Baltimore County (they may be just over the Carroll County line) and you'll get not only a chance to buy nice plants, but also really good ice cream and barbecue along with fun country store items--apple butter and candy sticks and things like that.
The real fun is in the fall--Spring Meadow Farms has their own pumpkin patch and farm petting zoo so I spend a day with my extended family taking a hayride out to pick pumpkins, petting goats and sheep, playing in piles of hay, and taking pony rides. There's a large area with picnic tables so you can either bring your own picnic or indulge in some of their pulled pork barbecue and cider. Yum. I can hardly wait for October!
