Tried to rip me off. 8/10/2011

Went down to get a smog on my 2002 Toyota Corolla that's been sitting in the driveway for a few years now. Charged up the battery and drove it down to smogs unlimited. Passed emissions part but he said my monitors were off due to the battery being dead. I was told it was a free retest and to drive it about 60 miles and come back so I did. During the 60 mile trip my check engine light came on so I took it back. I was told I needed a computer diagnoses done for $90. So I left the car and waited for the call. Later that day I got the call and was told my catalytic converter was bad and that it had to be replaced by a factory converter only. He quoted me $2100 to do the job. I got off the phone and called Midas. The guy at Midas asked for my vin# and said he'd call me back. 15 minutes later I got the call and was told it would be $493.21 out the door parts and labor, $1600 dollars cheaper. I went to smogs unlimited to pickup my car. The guy behind the counter that gave me the quote asked if he took off $200 dollars would that be in my range. Wow lol. So i asked for my keys, and was told if they didn't do the work than the retest wouldn't be free but it would be discounted to $28. Midas hooked me up and I took my car to another smog station because I wasn't about to give this company anymore of my business. My father recommended this place to me, and after this he will no longer be taking his 2 cars to them anymore. more
