I used to be a regular at Sassabone back at its old location. When we discovered a place that also did a "Trust the Chef" about 30 minutes closer to our home, my family decided to try Nozawa. Over the course of the past 2 years, Nozawa has easily surpassed Sassabone in food quality, service, decor & general vibe.
The fish is always perfect - fresh, melt in your mouth, not the least bit "fishy" or tough, as most sushi is when prepared in a mediocre way aka most everywhere else. The fish itself it so fresh and delicious that Nozawa doesn't need to drench it in spicy mayos or add crazy ingredients. If that's what you're looking for, go somewhere else.
Nozawa is about the fish, the homemade wasabi, and the ponsu sauce. Once you go Nozawa, you never go back. I can't eat other sushi now. I've been spoiled!
Pros: Freshest fish, quiet, calm, simple, clean flavor, quick
Cons: expensive (but worth it)

I love Spain, and have visited her a couple of times in the recent past. And I have enjoyed a variety of regional dishes, wines and mostly tapas that have sustained me throughout my travels. And it is my pleasure to report that Ole Tapas Bar is a breath of warm and dusky Iberian air right here in the San Fernando Valley.
From the moment we were warmly invited into the darkly reddish, glowing interior, we knew that the mood and tastes of Spain awaited.
We came specifically for Sangria and tapas. and we ordered accordingly. A pitcher of iced red sangria and the following: Pollo al Sabor de Granada--chicken breast strips with pomegranate sauce, and Pinchitos de Cordero--lamb brochettes in a sangria reduction sauce. We also enjoyed the Placa Caliente, which is an assortment of tapas featuring grilled shrimp, fried goat cheese in honey, patatas bravas, fried calamari, sauteed mushrooms and artichokes. We rounded out our meal ordering a fresh spinach salad with poached pear and goat cheese. Dessert was a lovely dish of sauteed banana carmelized in brandy, introduced into a puff pastry, baked and served with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and slivered almonds. Delicious and uncommon.
The dishes were appetizingly presented and satisfying. We definitely intend to return and sample more of the eclectic Spain-inspired fare. We also wish to enjoy the live flamenco show hat is currently scheduled for Tuesday nights.
The geography of southern California is very evocative of much of Spain. A meal and an evening at Ole Tapas Bar inspired memories and visions of our next journey to the ancient peninsula.
Pros: Ambience, menu selections, table staff
Cons: None of any consequence noted

Micheline Guide was right about them. Asanebo is a great restaurant. In my mind, they are one of the few restaurants in LA that have class. They are traditional but not pretentious in the way Nozawa is (I'm talking about their attitude, not the decor.) Asanebo chefs use fresh sozai (materials) and yet the prices are not so high as, let's say, old Ginza Sushiko. In terms of innovativeness, they try just about enough to surprise us but won't go into the degree of banality. I like Matsuhisa too, but I think you need to think of their food as totally different category from Japanese cuisine. And nothing wrong with that. But when you are really craving for Japanese food like I do sometimes (because I'm Japanese,) I'd go to Asanebo.
Pros: Food
Cons: Some dishes are better than the other, but isn't that the case with any restaurant?

I have the honor of always having TAKESHI serve me when I go here. It is my favorite place to eat sushi. They have impeccable service. Have memorized what drinks my gf and I order, and all of the sushi is top notch. If you have a problem selecting what you wanna eat, eat it all because its all good. I normally get omakase.... anyway, if you come here you will not be disappointed. I used to frequent Asanebo but ever since i went here, I have become a believer.
Pros: Good Food, Great Service, Intimate and Cozy
Cons: lack of street parking, Better Service at the bar

The food at this place is delicious, always. There are many items on the menu that I get on a regular basis. Though, I'm writing mostly about how wonderful the customer service is at this particular location. The host was very friendly and seated us promptly. And our waitress, Jenn K., was not only beautiful and courteous, but a hell of a good waitress as well. Many thanks to her and the Daily Grill for a fantastic lunch meeting!
Pros: Great food, friendly service, and Jenn!

Had a awesome time. Got there early for the lessons as recommended. The lesson allowed me to meet and dance with different ladies. Everyone was super friendly and we all laughed at ourselves for our efforts. The instructor made it fun. After the lesson was over me and my buddy went to the bar to have a couple of drinks and order some food. Food was great, loved the shrimp (cameron) pasta. My buddy ate the filet mignon. Our server was great. The band was awesome. Met a lot of new people. I will be back.
Pros: Unlike other places you eat, drink and dance all in the same room
Cons: wish a danced better
