POOR QUALITY PRODUCT 12/23/2011

gandhi appliances is selling low quality product . I bought a butterfly desire mixer grinder from this store for 150$. product is not worth the money....Used the mixer grinder for two months , it stopped working.I called back gandhi appliances and talked with them. They are asking me to contact the manufacturer. i have bought lot more goods online in different shops in USA and never seen a shop which ask customer to send the goods to manufacturer. They have given me a (Butterfly)phone number and asked me to contact them. i called that number and it was a wrong number. First time i bought the good from this shop. Here afterwards i won't be buying the goods from this shop and recommend the same to Others. This shops sells low quality products...Don't buy the goods from this shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Good online shopping experience 7/30/2011

Bought a wet grinder online, as they had the lowest price for the model I was looking for. Great overall experience. Shipping rates were reasonable, and my item was shipped within 48 hours of the order. From NJ to Dallas, I received it in less than a week (I chose basic ground shipping; they used FedEx). Just make sure they have the item in stock before order by calling them. Best value, fast shipping, delivered as promised! Saved $50 as compared to the next best option. (I used Gandhi stores despite some negative reviews here, as I could save a lot. Ordered online, as I live in Dallas TX. I have not used their customer service so far, so no complaints). more

Rude,Nasty, Lairs and will rip you off 9/11/2010

DO NOT DUE ANY BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE...YOU WILL GET RIPPED-OFF.!!!!!!!! I ordered a voltage converter from them they gave me a price took the money from my card then called a week later saying that it could not be shipped ups and wanted more money, After being hung up on several times by the son and owners brother I gave them them money Guess how it was shipped UPS. this is the oldest con-game in the business. When I called the brother told to go to hell and hung up again. If you like to be treated like crap and have you money stolen call them if not run as fast as you can to any other AMERICIAN company. Where customer service and honesty mean something... if you dont believe me read the other reviews!!!!! more

Treats you like dirt !! 2/24/2010

After calling them over and over finally shipped my order after 3 weeks. After I cancelled my order and returned the product charged me for double shipping and re-stocking fees. They were very rude with their responses and challenged me that I could not do anything against them. Lesson learned :( more

pioneer dvd player 12/6/2009

In spite of many negative reviews I have seen here, I just had an excellent transaction with Gandhi Appliances. My DVD player arrived in less than a week after order was placed. Exactly what I ordered. No problems here. more

Buyer Beware! 11/14/2009

I had a bad experience buying a Panasonic phone online. I feel Gandhi appliances misrepresented their product. Before purchasing, I explicitly asked if the phone was an all-panasonic product and whether it came with Panasonic 220 volt adapters. Gandhi appliances assured me that it did. I was surprised when the phone arrived with some obscure brand Chinese made adapters. Using Panasonic phones with such adapters would instantly void Panasonic Warranty. Gandhi Appliances slapped me with 20% restocking charge on top of the shipping charges I had to incur to return this merchandize. Personally, I'll never do business with Gandhi Appliances again and advise you to make doubly sure what you'll be getting. more

be aware ! 10/24/2009

They sell cheap Chinese stuff. Read the fine print - no warranty on a lot of their items they sell. You will be covered for 2-3weeks after purchase for transformers. Their transformers are a real safety concern. They will smoke after a short time of use even when used with less than 50% power consumption for what they are rated. They are so cheap and with such bad quality build. I will report to CWA. They denied replacing under warranty both of my failed transformers with the following explanation: I did not proper use their transformers since I used them on US power outlet (115V 60Hz) with my Euro washer (rated for 220V 60Hz). They tried to say that the Frequency rating of my washer caused the problems! I should only use their transformers with Euro units rated 220V 50Hz. What a joke. First they should study a little bit electronics in order to judge Volt/Ampere/Frequency! I Bought two different models of 5000Watt transformers from them (one SIMRAN AR-5000 and one LiteFuze 5000, both rated for 5000Watt) I loaded at the maximum with 2200Watt (measured). The SIMRAN failed finally (after smelling like a smoking Si transistor) because the electric plug for the power outlet melted down (once again - cheapest parts they can get). The LiteFuze failed by smoking the whole fuse housing and the following cable (30A fuse in a F8-32 housing - what is actually rated at the most with 10A ECE Euro / 16A US). Both failures show that not an over the spec/excessive applied load caused the damage but the bad design / cheap quality (the fuse itself never blow). At least I would expect a return or replacement under warranty for that - but nothing. I called and all what I got as a reply was the BS that I used a 220V unit that is rated for 60Hz on the secondary end of their transformer and that excludes me from getting a replacement / return. Be aware that their cheap Chinese stuff often not even has a warranty certificate/paper with manufacture contact information. So once the unit failed you are on your own. Think about it. more

Selling used items 10/14/2009

Selling used items, very bad communications, advertising items that they do not have, very expensive shipping, you have to fight to get your money back without the shipping, My whole experience was a nightmare, I could not believe that a serious store would do that , I bought five items from them with a value of 250 $ (blender, mini food processor, deep fryer, cordless phone) paying 50 $ for shipping only (15 lb took 10 days ups) , first I have to re-choose 3 items because they do not have them anymore (why you have them on the website 3 out of 5 is not available and will not be), the blender arrived in a box that was at sometime soaked in water but dried up (apparently the storage was flooded), the cordless phone was used just like if you put your 2 years old phone in its box , no packaging materials of any kind) the phone was advertised to be 220 volt but it was not in fact it was a 110 volt only bought from an outlet store (knew from labels on box) with a 220 after marked cheep adapter , the phone looked like a returned item missing all the packaging materials, manuals, you can the same phone new from Wal-Mart for 40$ but I paid 60$ for that phone just because it was advertised as 220V phone not 110V , returned the phone for a refund for four week did not hear from them they did not even respond to my email, finally I got the refund only after calling and bugging them, knowing that they had the item three weeks ago, when I called to complain they were not cooperative at all and wanted to send a replacement but I asked for a refund, they did refund me a month later without the shipping and with no apology at all, those stores sells overseas appliances and they expect the buyer to discover the problems with the ordered items when he is already out of the country, the website looked good to me but I discovered that they advertise items that they do not have then try to sell you other more expensive similar items, do not buy from them I had to call and fight over the phone with them and threaten them to g more

Selling used items 9/29/2009

Bad: Selling used items, very bad communications, advertising items that they do not have, very expensive shipping, you have to fight to get your money back without the shipping. Improvements: advertise only what you have, do not sell used items, have respect to buyers, do not sell 110 v items as 220 v items (miss-advertising). Other: My whole experience was a nightmare, I could not believe that a serious store would do that , I bought five items from them with a value of 250 $ (blender, mini food processor, deep fryer, cordless phone) paying 50 $ for shipping only (15 lb took 10 days ups) , first I have to re-choose 3 items because they do not have them anymore (why you have them on the website 3 out of 5 is not available and will not be), the blender arrived in a box that was at sometime soaked in water but dried up (apparently the s. more

Terrible support 9/25/2009

I ordered a 200V hot plate from Gandhi. They contacted me and said it was out of stock and offered other choices. I selected another brand of the same item. They shipped me an electric toothbrush instead. I contacted them and they asked what model of toothbrush and asked me to send it back. I asked them to go ahead and ship my hotplate now instead of waiting until the toothbrush arrived because I was holding up a shipment overseas for it. They did not. They would not answer my numerous emails and please to ship it. I got them on the phone and they said to email my complaint. Still no email reply. I asked them to ship it overnight at their expense since it was their fault. They did not. In the end I received it about a month after I ordered it (should have been 3 or 4 days). Do not buy from these people online. Terrible support, incompetent staff! more

Gandhi Appliances-never for online purchases 9/6/2009

I had the misfortune of ordering a Kitchenaid mixer online. They kept promising it had been despatched 6-7 days before it was actually sent. Will not come clear.I flew back to India before the shipment arrived. Did not even send by expedited mail even though I offered to pay. more

Overseas Products 8/16/2009

Good: I am going overseas and was looking for hair clippers that were rated for 220 volts. I was pleased with the selection of hair clippers that were available for purchase. The clipper that I purchased, a Wahl clipper, was a good price compared to other online sellers. The clipper was shipped in a timely manner and I received it without delay.. Bad: In advance of purchasing this product, I called to verify that the clipper's plug was a European plug. When the clipper arrived it had an U.S. style plug for which I will need to use an adapter - not a big deal; however, the clipper heads were out of alignment and needed to be returned to Wahl for adjustment. I also felt taken advantage of in paying for shipping. The weight of the clipper at checkout was listed at seven pounds, but when delivered it was only two pounds, so I was overcharged for shipping.. Improvements: Gandhi Appliances should do a better job of quality control, insuring that defective products aren't shipped to customers. They also need to correct their shipping charges.. more

Suitcases! 4/20/2006

I know this place really places its emphasis on the electronics it carries, but I go here for a different reason. Whenever I am traveling, I stop in here to buy a suitcase. This place has a really big variety of suitcases and they come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. Believe it or not, these suitcases will be priced at less than half of what you would pay at any other department store (even places like Wal Mart). The suitcases last for a few trips, then its time for another. But for that prices, you gotta love the suitcase you get! more

220 volt 3/11/2006

This is the place to go if you are giong out of the country. I go here all the time when I travel because they carry 220 volt electronics. They give really good prices on tihngs like rice cookers and microwaves. They also have a lot of suitcases here and they are so much low priced from big stores. They will give you a big suitcase here for only like 25 dollars and it will fit all the things you buy from this good electronics store. more

Well Stocked Electronics 8/15/2005

Gandhi Appliances has been operating on Devon Avenue, which is the Indian Market in Chicago, for many years. I remember going there as a kid to buy gifts for relatives in India. The reason we went there and not Best Buy was that they carry 220 voltage items which is what works overseas. The 220 volt appliances usually cost more and there are less deals available on these items. And those are the forte of stores like Gandhi Appliances. It is well stocked and feels more like a warehouse. The sales people are rushed and in a hurry to get you in and out. You can find a lot of stuff you would at a typical electronics store, but like I said, it's geared towards the overseas market. more
