Best Mediterranean I've Had 6/29/2011

I love this place. We live in Houston now, which has EVERYTHING, and we still haven't been able to find Mediterranean food this good down here. We make a point to go every time we visit home. My favorites are the Turkish Plate, Souvlaki and Sea Bass. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food and I can never pass up a (generous) piece of baklava at the end. Yes, garlic seeps out your pores for the next day and a half, but it's totally worth it. It's also a great place to grab gyros and fries for lunch. Yes, it's loud, but for us that's part of the atmosphere. The new South Hill location is every bit as good as the original. more

Garlic is king 8/6/2010

;-There are alot of reviews, many good and a few bad. I have been going to the White House since it was in the little white house. Garlic is king there. I have rarely experienced poor service there, and I love the food. Raci who is the owner is a really great guy and comes around to the tables several times a night. My favorite things they serve are not on the menu. The sea bass is the best I have ever had...perfectly cooked every time. The salmon with capers is also wonderful. It is loud which is a slight drawback, but not enough to keep me away. You can request they go light on the garlic. I asked when one day the green beans were way more than I could eat. Now I order light garlic on everything. They created a special signature wine that on first sip isn't that great....but put it with the food...and WOW! It's wonderful. Go and try it. If you are worried about the garlic, then order light on it. Have fun! more

Not Worth the Wait OR the Price 11/2/2009

After driving by this place for over 3 years, my fiance and I went out for a really special meal. I was really excited to try a place I had heard so many rave reviews of. After we were seated by a bored hostess, we waited a very, very long time before our server came with water - and our simple drink orders took another lengthy time period. I have worked in food service, so I am very understanding when the place is understaffed or extremely busy. This was not the case when we were dining, however. We ordered our food and were very surprised at how long it took for it to arrive. Not only that, but there was no bread or anything else while we were waiting, nor was there even an acknowledgement of how long it was taking or an explanation. When our food arrived, my fiance's chicken fettucine alfredo was in a lunch-sized bowl, with nothing else - just a bowl. For the same price, my chicken parmigiana was on a platter with a side of veggies and did look like a dinner entree. I felt so bad for my fiance that I traded entrees with him. The food was okay, but definitely nothing special or worth the considerable wait. In this recession, I will spend my money somewhere else. Pros: Good atmosphere Cons: Food, cost, wait for food more

Finally Not a Sysco clone!! 8/31/2009

Very Original and the best Ceasar I've had in a long time! Thanks for the effort! If you know how to order food you won't be disappointed. Some dishes look to be too rich and others appear delicious and they are! more

""Garlicky slop on a plate"" 2/15/2009

We were a party of eight, 6 adults and two kids (15 and 8 years old). They were busy but we were sat in about 10 minutes. The odor of garlic was everywhere, even outside stunk of it. Music was loud, very LOUD, combine that with the overpowering odor of garlic and this is not a restaurant one ?dines? at.\r \r Service was good, bread was over-proofed and tasteless, pasta was horribly overcooked, both chicken dishes were overcooked and the chicken dry, lamb was tough and very greasy, and the sauces were very thick, almost like a pudding with garlic being the only flavor that stood out. Without trying to be too rude my comment to my wife was that the dinners were like ""Hungry-man meals gone horribly wrong.""\r \r I know I am bucking the trend here; the place was busy and loud so obviously this type of food appeals to some people. We were all recent transplants to this area, we went in hearing that this place was one of the best restaurants, however upon leaving we all agreed it was not for us.\r \r I think a place like this epitomizes the native Spokanenite's view of a great meal, it has become a local legend, and most of the natives seem to love it while most of the transplants to this area do not. (We have found other bewildered newcomers who have tried it too and have had similar experiences.)\r \r I have many times, thought about going back, to give it another chance, maybe, just maybe, they screwed up on ONLY our order, but when we had 8 out of 8 meals that were not good, I don't really see the point. I also ponder the wisdom of the 8 year that was dining with our group, when asked how his dinner was he called his meal ""garlicky slop on a plate"".\r Pros: Service Cons: Terrible food, loud music, Terrible food, overpowering garlic odor, did I mention terrible food? more

Garlic lovers paradise 5/7/2008

I always enjoy going to the Whitehouse Grill. The best onion soup and hummus i've ever had. The negatives are that even if you make a reservation they always run 15 to 30 minutes late and the music is way to loud Pros: value Cons: parking, loud music more

Service very poor. 4/1/2008

You make a reservation, you would think it would mean at least a close time to you seating, not a hlf hour later. Another thirty minutes to order drinks and another 20 minutes to order food. The food was rushed, cold and the quality was very lacking to say the least. I spoke with the owner and voiced my concern, I was honestly told we are pleased that you spend your money here. That was it, nothing. Well that will be the last time I spend my hard earned money there! more

Great food. 8/8/2007

This is one of my favorite restaurants! Every time I eat here I leave full and completely satisfied. The prices are fair and the service is usually on point. The wine list has a lot of good wines for fairly cheap prices. One warning about White House Grill though: You must love garlic! Pros: Great food, large portions, fair prices. Cons: Quite the drive from Spokane...but worth it. more

One of our favorites 4/26/2007

This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is great and we always have great service. The atmosphere is tremendous, and the owner is very friendly. If you like garlic, this is the place to be. We go at least once a month, even though it's a 30 minute drive. And the food is ridiculously cheap too, so it's a steal in addition to it being great food. If you like interesting food, flavors, and fun, this is it! Pros: we love everything about this restaurant Cons: usually need reservations in advance more

Don' bother 4/6/2007

It's the Emperor's New Clothes...buy a rosted chicken at the grocer's, dump a jar of crushed garlic on it, rent a movie & stay home. The presentation is awful, I love garlic but you can't taste anything over it, so what is the point? Food should have flavor and depth and layers. Sorry. more

Great food 1/21/2007

Garlic is king here. First time I went there my wife and I were eating and I ordered some kind of chicken. was very good. Bout the time I was done eating, the waitress brought out another piece of chicken and siad that the cooks thought the one they gave me was too small. AWESOME!! That kind of service I can apprieciate. another time the owner himself came out and greeted everyone who was eating. He asked abouy my food and I said it was great. I ate the Chicken Istanbul. I told him that he need to put this on the menu. He told me that when I come in I can just order it and the cooks would know what it is. EXCELLENT!!! I now go about once a month. Pros: Everything more

One of the best restaurants in the US... 8/8/2006

I have lived all over the US (and world) and can honestly say I've never eaten lamb as good as what I found at the White House. Service was impecable and prices (for someone who currently lives and has lived in a major metro area) are amazing. Can't wait to make another business trip to Spokane in order to pop into the restaurant again. Zagat take note! more

Gotta love garlic! 5/30/2006

The secret of Post Falls has been out of the bag for a few years now but it's still a great place for lunch or dinner. The owner is often seen singing in the kitchen or around the tables. Plan on smelling like garlic for a couple days. Pros: Value, Food quality, Atmosphere Cons: Busy more

User review by xxneonzombiexx 12/7/2005

If you like Garlic this is the last stop on your search for a good atmosphere and quality food. There is no restaurant out there that compares to the flavors at the white house grill. Prepare for an all out assault on your tastebuds that will leave you screaming for more. Pros: GARLIC!!, atmophere, quality more

Worth the drive 11/7/2004

We are regulars here-we fell in love with the White House the first time we dined there, and have been faithful patrons since that day. Warning! Get there early as there tends to be a line that forms in the early evening. There is so much to say about this place! The menus under the table glass, the flashlights, the new location! The menu items are priced so low that we feel guilty when we dine here. The food is simply wonderful-IF you can make it past the appetizers (I have yet to do this). The wine selection is nice as well. If you are a first time diner, save room for the Baklava-it's wonderful!! Pros: value, food, atmosphere more

ah the power of garlic 6/6/2002

This is a great place if you don't have any problems with garlic. What am I saying?? You had better love it and want to marry it. No really this is a great place to eat. It was actually one of the first places my now husband took me for a date. We went at night so it was candlelit. The smell makes your mouth water when you just open the door. Three things: 1MAKE A RESERVATION!!! The word is out if only by word of mouth; this place is great. 2 Starve yourself before you come so you can have room for dessert. 3 Don't do what I did and fall in love with the first entree you try when you go. I always get the same thing (mediterranean chicken) and so does my husband (kuzu marcana.) Everything is truly wonderful here so be adventurous! Pros: great atmosphere, staff great Cons: parking more
