Walter Hoving Home

Life is best lived on purpose, not by accident--the sooner we discover what God intends for us to do with our lives, the better. But the search to find meaning and purpose for our lives is seldom easy. Sometimes we wander aimlessly in a wilderness of our own thinking and making. Sometimes, we must try, fail, and many times before we discover our true life's purpose.\r I spent 7 months at the Walter Hoving Home and left not because I wanted but because of a rule that I felt was not right for my situation.\r I went home and within 3 days was back into my habits. But it didn't last long, God had a grip on me and I soon learned that my plans however diluted were longer mine. God had other plans for me. This place is an amazing place!! I don't know where I would be without the help I had from there. All of the negative comments are most likely from people who where not ready to change or follow pretty basic guidelines that are there for a reason. As silly as some of the guidelines may seem. The program puts women who have followed the program in charge of different areas as they move forward in the program...thats were people are using the term ""run by criminals"" which is pretty rude. The Walter Hoving home is a safe place to work through a lot of hard issues that may have fed past addiction. When people use the term ""cult"" i just laugh. God is the only one that I ever worshipped when I was there. He was the only one who could work on my heart and change me from the inside out. more

I am currently living at the home now and I don't think it's the home that changes you it's the ablity to get to know the Holy Spirit while in the home. I am grateful for this home because it gave me an opportunity to get a sincere relationship with Jesus Christ. I also have the opportunity to reunite with my children who i haven't seen due to my addiction. I have been clean 11 months and I complete in August. The home also is going to provide room and board for me while I attend school for my LPN. I don't like people bad mouthing this home because I would be dead if I never made the decision to go and make a change for Christ. more

Why they put this place down? They wanted to do things their way, the wrong way, which is why they were sent their in the first place. I should know because I was there and the place is awesome, they care about you and making your less complicated then I had made mine. I wanted things my way, I wanted to smoke, I wanted A man, I screwed up. It's not a cult...NOT A CULT... and they are honest and caring and want these women to get there crap together. So, for those of you who put this place down, your either dead from drugs, killed by your pimp,or still in the madness...So get your facts straight. more

This awful place uses God's name for all the evil they do there. My daughter ate M&M's in her room and tried to mail a letter without them reading it first and she was threatened with discharge for this awlful behavior. One of the parents tried to bring in a box of chips for all the girls during visitation. They did'nt want them. They only want cash. What does that tell you. It's a cult People shut this place down. Staying there you are forced into service for the House and all outsiders are not welcome if they disagree with whatever they say, including forced begging of the women there. more

If I could give this place negative stars I would do it. I had the brutally unfortunate expirience of waisting seven weeks of my life at this place. There is no reality going there, the people who work there are a bunch of suck up hypocrites. If I had a small belief in God before I got there, that belief was totally erradicated after being there. I could go on forever about Walter Hoving and how much I really believe this place is a cult. I have been happy and sober and living in the real world, with real people for five years. Don't even consider it!! more
