Been there a few times, love the atmosphere, food & Impeccable service. Not your average Steakhouse. Staff is well trained. Love it! more

We have been enjoying eating at Wagstaff's Steak House for more than 25 years. The meals are even more delicious today than they were back then; however, the steaks and the service are the reason we have been going there all these years. It's our favorite go to place for family celebrations and just having a night out. Keep up the great work Danny. more

This is my favorite restaurant! Has been for the last 14 years. Service and food is excellent. Love the salad bar! more

The negative reviewers don't seem to understand what they're talking about. (Several reviewers complain about not finding the soup, but it's always right to the left of the salad bar!) more

Wonderful Evening of terrific food! 1/9/2012

My husband and I went to Wagstaff's on Friday Dec 30, 2011 for our anniversary dinner. When we walked in the front door we were greeted very pleasently and seated without delay in a quiet alcove. Our server (Amber) was a delight..you really need to ask for her when you go!! When looking at the menus, you need to read them because the selections are delicious! Yes, the menu is a bit limited..however, that allows them to truly perfect your choices. We found the steaks fork tender (no knives needed!), salad bar had some surprisingly delicious choices & the homemade vegetable soup that night tasted like my own! All in all, we had such a lovely evening at a very fair price (we were shocked it was so low for what we had - appetizer, a full bottle of wine, 2 10 oz New york Strips and dessert all for $85.00)!! My husband and I are akready making plans for our next evening at Wagstaff's:) more

Spend Your $$$ Elsewhere!!! 9/29/2011

If I could give this restaurant a negative rating, believe me, I would! I don't mind spending a little extra money for ""fine dining"", where you get what you pay for, but Wagstaff's charges Morton's prices for sub-standard food and service. more

Fresh fresh fresh! 4/8/2011

Wagstaffs is awesome! Ignore the negative reviews and give this place a try. I have been eating here for years. Its a quaint little place with nice table linens. They roll out this cart with these huge sides of beef, a butcher knife and some plates. If having steak, they ask if you would like Ribeye or NY Strip and how much...they cut a piece of the beef right there at your table and ask how you want it cooked. You can get any fresher than that. Plus, they cook it on an open fire grill. It really is amazing. It is the best steak we have eaten at any of the big named restaurants. Its definitely NOT tasteless like a couple reviews indicated. We should all support local businesses like this! Excellent job Wagstaffs...see you soon! more

Steaks had no flavor, salad bar was a joke, shredded lettuce out of a bag, no soup at the salad bar. Will not go back... more

Great atmosphere and food! 10/14/2010

My husband and I love going to Wagstaff's. It's casual and relaxing. The food is wonderful and the service is superb. Very friendly and helpful people work there and the steak is very tasty! You need to make reservations because it fills up fast. I wish they had more parking, but people park in the parking lot next door. Great! more

My Favorite Steak Place 11/11/2009

Ever since I discovered this place, I have been in love. Unlike other steak restaurants, they don't try to be everything to everybody - they are STEAK - not chicken not seafood, not saloon.....they wheel a cart of two cuts of your choice: NY Strip and Delmonico...if you order your steak too thin, it's your fault, not theirs. Sides are minimal - they concentrate on STEAK.....they offer freshly made grilled toast, not frozen brown and serve brown colored loaves....the service is excellent and friendly. the STEAK is always perfect, tender and a cut above chains. They are a family, not a chain. Some of the diners wear shorts, others wear evening dress. It's your choice. If you go there to look and judge what people are wearing, then obviously, you aren't there for food. As for the wine list, alcohol is their forte - you are there to eat steak, not fill up on wine. This place is THE PLACE Pros: live charcoal cooking, prime steaks, no fake saloon hype Cons: parking could be better, tables farther apart more

An excellent steak experience. 1/11/2009

I have eaten at Wagstaff's several times and they have never failed to impress me. The dining room is romantic and semi-formal, offering a great atmosphere for a first date, engagement proposal, or simply a family outing. They offer two cuts of steak, bring out the entire side of beef, and letting you choose the thickness. If your steak is to thin it simply is your own fault. The prices are reasonable and the side portions are generous. The customer service is excellent and it makes you feel at home. Pros: Excellent service and food Cons: parking accomodations are not great, but acceptable more

Wagstaff's is restaurant you will want to come back and dine at, over and over again. 5/8/2007

I've been going to Wagstaff's for 6+ years. Sometimes alone, sometimes with business clients and sometimes with large groups. What I can say with absolute certainty is they cook their steaks, chicken, and some of the shellfish (including fish) over REAL charcoal. Their NY Strip or Ribeye is USDA ""Top Choice"" vs, the very pricy eateries who use USDA Prime. You will pay a lot more to Prime steaks, and the quality is (in my opinion) not worth the difference in money. In the 6 years I have been dining at Wagstaff's I have never had a bad meal nor a steak that was not tasty and tender, with the unmistakable flavor of meat roasted over real characoal. For those who want a drink, their mixed beverages are not skimpy (I like Martini's) nor watered down. You don't have to ask for water - and they allow you to smoke (no pipes nor cigars) in the small smoking section (which has electronic air cleaners). Wagstaff's is a class act without the air of pretense. If you want an above average meal at a reasonable price, and not have to dress to the teeth unless you want to, Wagstaff's is a restaurant you will want to come back and dine at, over and over again. Pros: Killer freshly cooked shrimp cocktail, live charcoal cooking Cons: Very Busy - reservations a must more

Food? The steaks had NO FLAVOR! They were obviously cooked over charcoal & at a much higher temperature than necessary. The choices for ""side items"" were french fries, baked potato, or HASHBROWNS. Our bread choice was ""Texas Toast."" I'm sorry- was I in a steakhouse or a WaffleHouse? The baked potatoes were small and the ""fixins"" were minimal. The salad bar was another disappointment-no effort made towards presentation and the salad dressing was bottle qaulity, not gourmet. Class and ambiance? Customers wore shorts AND there were some in T-shirts. My fiance wore a tie and was extremely over dressed. Wine lover? The wine list was small and not impressive. Customer service? Probably the only good part. The servers were friendly and somewhat prompt. We had several servers, which was a little confusing. Overall- I do not recommend it. They should market themselves for what they are- a high-end diner. Pros: customer service, location Cons: bland food, no parking, too expensive more

Scrumptious 7/22/2004

First time my wife and I went there was for our anniversary. The service was great but what sets Wagstaff's apart is the steak. Not only do they roll the steak to your table but the gentleman who does the cutting is the owner. The prime rib was fantastic. No A-1 needed for either my or my wife's steak. The side of hashbrowns ""all the way"" were tasty. Just to top it off you must try the wonderful cheescake. Prices are very reasonable and competative. more

Good value.....but 11/4/2003

lacks a good or at least decent wine list. The few wines you can buy are the same main stream jug wines that mostly cheaper restaurants offer. When you can get so many good value wines, why not complete the experience? Pros: Good food, pick your cut Cons: poor wine list more

Decent restaurant, but it is definitely overrated from my perspective. Most steakhouses offer filet mignon, but this establishment does not. The tables are uncomfortably close to one another and the dining room is not that elegant. Portion sizes are smaller than most good steakhouses and the night we were there, our server did not treat our group with as much respect as she should have. All in all, I would not return to this restaurant. more

If you want steak. . . . 2/4/2003

If you're like me and decide WHAT you want to eat before WHERE you want to eat, Wagstaff's is the place for you . . . if you want the best steak in town. Select your cut at your table in a cozy atmosphere geared toward family dining. Great service and excellent beef easily make this my favorite restaurant in the Richmond area. If you want a wide variety of dishes - - go somewhere else. If you want a top notch steak dinner at a reasonable price, go to Wagstaff's. more

I'll never eat meat again 2/4/2003

WOW The prices are out of this world. Very thin cut steaks. Never go there again. Not even for free. The vegetables were ok. more
