Waffle Shop the

We went to State College, PA this past weekend for a wedding. Though we just stopped going to grad school two years ago, State College is ever changing. One thing that can be counted on, trip after trip is The Waffle Shop. We are partial to the original location on Atherton. They have remodelled a bit but the diner/coffee shop atmosphere is still deadon. Offering delicious breakfast foods but also great sandwiches, it's always hard to pick one thing! i went for a cinnamon roll (hot, fresh very very gooey and buttery) and a tuna melt (served with coleslaw and a pickle--4.45!!! i always add fries and then can't eat everything!) . hubby got the iowa corn pancakes (a favorite of his) and a side of sausage. we skipped the coffee and home squeezed orange juice this time, but they are always great. prices are VERY reasonable, but they don't take plastic..so remember your cash and ENJOY! more

And there is pretty much ALWAYS a wait--no matter which of the three locations in State College (can't speak for Bellefonte) you choose--especially on the weekends. Unfortunately, they do not let you take a number and they also don't take your name for a waiting list. Instead, you simply park yourself on the line, which usually stretches outdoors, and wait till you are at the front and a table is ready. But you will be quite happy and quite hungry when you are seated. No worries though, portions are large as is the selection. Though waffles are their signature, you can get pretty much any kind of standard breakfast item here: omelettes, pancakes, bacon, sausage, ham--you get the picture. But do try the waffles, they are served in a variety of styles, and I have not tried one that I did not like. more
