Employees seem to hide from customers 9/3/2010

Is there a crew more bored, disinterested, useless? I get the feeling I am bothering them and sometimes some are intimidating aside from for the most part, friendly cashiers. Seems like two different teams working for the same store. Annie is the best cashier,Ozzie the friendliest associate,Bill ,while not the happiest camper,is the most knowledgeable and helpful. The rest seem like they were elsewhere. Did they forget the cardinal rule of smiling to the customers and asking if they need help? more

Excellent Hardware Store 3/6/2010

I've known this place since I was growing up. My mom used to go there to get eggs (apparently they had the BEST deals on eggs back in the '70s and 80's). I go there because it is a place I trust. There's no pressure, everyone is genuinely willing to help you. They're the best! Pros: Knowledgeable Staff, Plenty of them, Longevity more

Best Hardware Store Hands Down! 1/6/2009

Unlike the big, overwhelming Home Depots, the staff at Virgil?s is always helpful and knowledgeable about what they are selling. I?ve often gone in with random projects, in search of the ?perfect thing? to complete a job and they will not only spend time to walk through the store with me, but will even use their tools in the back to help me complete the project. They have a great collection of hardware and small pieces that you can conveniently buy just one of if that?s all you need. The prices are reasonable, the selection of merchandise is great and the staff is very friendly. I?ve never had a bad experience. Only bummer is they are not open that late. Pros: Friendly and Helpful Staff, Great Selection, Reasonably Priced Cons: Only open till 7pm more

People who know their stock 11/30/2007

In today's world of big box store consumerism, places like Virgil's are throwbacks to an era of small business and people who know what the sell. How often have you walked into a Home Depot, stopped someone in an orange apron, asked for a specific item (needle nose pliers, for example)...and they were able to walk you to the correct place? Well, at Virgil's...not only did the man with the name tag take me to the pliers section...but he proceeded to point out 4 different kinds of needle nose pliers. I have never had a bad experience at Virgil's with customer service. A couple of times they didn't have what I was looking for...but that's only because they were sold out. If you're in Glendale, are tired of the crazy know-nothings at those huge stores...try Virgil's. more

Old Fashioned Service and Carries Hard to Find Parts 9/29/2007

As an owner of an older home with older fixtures, I absolutely appreciate Virgil's Hardware Store. Unlike the large retail chains such as Home Depot and OSH, Virgil's usually carries hard to find parts and a practical array of hardware tools as well as household cleaining/maintenance items. It's amazing that they are able to carry a well-balanced assortment of DIY parts and tools in such a modest sized store as compared to the larger chains. They are also well-staffed with knowledgeable individuals who will help you quickly find what you are looking for and answer your questions. For the most part, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable although I've also had a few rude and incompetent ones that I've had to deal with. Virgil's tends to be a bit pricey and they are strict on their return policies - but I'm fine with that and am happy to pay a bit more knowing that they are usually well-stocked and have access to knowledgeable professionals. Their hours are convenient and there's plenty of parking. Pros: knowledgeable helpful staff and carries hard to find parts more

Try here first. 3/31/2007

I love Virgil's. When I need to find someone who knows what they're talking about, this is the place. The have a great selection of the important stuff and a crazy selection of everything else. Some of the things they have here are odd, but I love it. I'll find things here I didn't know existed. Although some employees are a little interesting, they care and if you ask for the guys who really know, they REALLY know. Keep the receipt and they'll return anything that was the wrong part or you didn't need after all. I've been working with some plumbing stuff, and they had everything I needed and ordered the obscure part they didn't have in stock. Bill in plumbing was the best. They do actually care here, unlike the big orange monster. Pros: Professionalism, selection, quality, customer service, parking. more

Best Customer Service, The Old Fashion Way 11/3/2006

Walk in to almost any department and there is an expert in that department. Virgil's is a bit more pricey than the other box stores. For the cost conscious cunsumer go to the local Ralphs supermaket and and find up to 20% off coupons in the back of your Ralph's reciept. Pros: parking, customer service Cons: pricey, limited selection than the box stores more
