This is not the place I knew 20yrs ago when I came to visit family...\r Now you can have, Baby back ribs with 'arroz con frijoles' or 'yuca al moho'...What happend?\r The sauce, is no longer the ""SAUCE""... Pros: Which? Cons: Which of the many? more

How unfortunate yet if anyone has any ideas... 10/20/2008

I was visiting my parents in Coral Gables and come back for the foods \r I grew up with. I went to a favorite Uncle Tom?s. We ordered the ribs and specifically asked for ?original Uncle Tom's Barbeque Sauce? all to go.The bill was over 200.00USD for the four orders of ribs. I was happy to do so as long as it was what I asked for. They LIED to me and gave me another sauce instead of the original Uncle Tom's BBQ sauce. \r I was born and raised in Miami. I know the ladies that worked serving tables there. Remember Ada?.\r The old Cook was an American man who KNEW how to cook. The original owner had a sauce that was unique and worthy of awards. These people knew my parents, They watched me grow up. I brought my children there to ejoy what I had as a child. The cole slaw was always great! The corn was too. The Fries and Garlic bread were to die for and fun to eat after all else was gone. That is all a memory.\r I do not like being lied to. I paid a great deal of money for LOUSY FOOD and LIES. It is a SHAME to realize that a great restaurant and good food is gone. They did not tell me the truth. I feel TAKEN and violated by a lifelong friend.\r \r DO NOT BOTHER GOING TO UNCLE TOM'S. Uncle Tom?s is GONE!\r \r There is no more pleasure in the Uncle Tom's Experience.\r \r The staff is dishonest to it's patrons. My transaction was WELL OVER $200.00USD. The only good thing is that I paid with VISA. I called to complain and return food. They hung up the phone on me. I will be disputing the charge.I do have a Gallon of the original Sauce thanks to my parents. They sent me 4 Gallons purchased from Uncle Tom's before the owner discontinued the ORIGINAL GREAT SAUCE. If anyone knows how to(or wants to) replicate it since it is NO LONGER a product they wish to sell or serve, I will happily collaborate with someone who is serious about reproducing the recipe. We might have it analyzed for preservation of a gastronomic legend.\r VERY DISSATISFIED LIFE LONG CUSTOMER\r Pros: none to mention Cons: lost all of its simple charm with deceit and lies more

Worst than Shorties, if possible. 3/20/2008

Anyone who remembers Uncle Tom's from the old days has probably stopped going there entirely. In nearly 50 years of living in Miami, I have never seen a restaurant deteriorate so rapidly. The new owners have altered everything for the worst. The old unique and delicious barbeque sauce has been replaced with an overly sweet putrid concoction. The ribs themselves have a peculiar appearance and taste. NEVER GO HERE. IT TRULY STINKS. Hard to believe, but it's worse than Shorty's, another formerly great place that has sunk to the bottom of the pile. (Shorty's ribs are effectively barbequed bones but their cole slaw though a bit thick and soggy still has the original unique flavor! I have been told that they harvest a herb or plant in secret from the Glades that gives it that taste, but that may be an urban myth)\r \r The only decent barbeque left in town is the Hitching Post on Okeechobee Road near the Miami Springs entrance. The new Cuban owners have kept everything as it was and they feature several varieties of mouthwatering ribs. HIGHLY recommended!!! The old place way out on the Trail (past Krome) and Shakie's way down US 1 approaching Homestead are also good if you are willing to travel a bit. BUT whatever you do, DO NOT PATRONIZE UNCLE TOM""S. It is a complete gastronomic and monetary rip-off!!!\r \r Broward is full of good barbeque. Georgia Barbeque for one is VERY good. more

avoid going after 6pm. 2/26/2008

i went the other night with mother and aunt. we had fried calamari, cheese and jalapeno croquettes, chicken poppers or chicken chicharron for me, and pork. god was the food bad! the chicken poppers were not as i expected. im use to chicken poppers with no fat. these had lots of it. the pork wasnt for me but it was all left on the plate since it was sagy and not crispy. the fried calamari was good i suppose since my mother ate it all. and the cheese and jalapeno croquettes were the best! i suppose the food wasnt good because it was on a late night sunday. i plan to go again one day during the day. Pros: 2 guys playing music outside Cons: food after 6pm more

Worst food in Miami, please STAY FAR FAR AWAY from Uncle Tom's BBQ, it IS HORRIBLE 6/23/2007

I've been seeing Uncle Tom's BBQ from the outside for the past 20+ years. A few months back I decide to drop in during lunchtime. The decorations are cool, lots of old pictures of people who've visited including celebrities, sports stars, movie stars, etc. It made me think ""Gee this place must've been something years ago and has some history behind it.""\r \r The whole staff was low class chusma Cuban. No white/anglos or blacks to be found in staff or patrons. The bartender was one rude Cuban woman who had just gotten off the raft, didn't speak English. It took her about 10 minutes to get around to me and she had the rude attitude of someone who doesn't care for customer service.\r \r I ordered a churrasco steak that was $8 or $9 bucks and it tasted like a piece of shoe leather, dry, withered up and tasteless. The beer was $2 or $3 I think which was fine. Upon receiving the bill I find that gratuity is already included! Thats right, the tip was built in. No wonder the staff was so crappy, they must know the regulars won't leave them an actual tip for them to take home so the service and food suffers. I could understand gratuity being included in places near the airport since tourists don't tip but at Uncle Tom's Cabin?? WTF??\r \r A few months later I'm thinking to myself ""Maybe I went on an off day, and maybe I should've gotten a BBQ pork sandwich, not a churrasco, after all it is Uncle Tom's BBQ"" So I go again during lunch time and the same staff and low class Cuban crowd is there. I order a Budweiser pint and the bartender returns with a bottle of budweiser. I tell him ""I asked for a draft, do you guys have draft beer, you know, CERVEZA DE BARRIL?"" And the guy is lost, so I don't want to be rude and say, hey thanks this is good, its nice and cold.\r \r I order a BBQ pork sandwich and what comes back is horrible! Its dry and bad quality meat in stale bread that had been re-heated. No matter how much BBQ sauce I put on the stuff it tasted horrible.\r \r Pros: This might've been a cool place 30 years ago. Cons: Horrible staff. Horrible service. Horrible food. more

Uncle Tom's Nightmare BBQ 3/3/2007

Oh my God!!!! Did I miss the real Uncle Toms, I realized he sold the restaurant the minute I walked in but I wanted to try it anyways. What a huge mistake I made, after a long time waiting for the food the BBQ chicken was very dry and over cooked as if it had been sitting on the grill for a long period of time. The baked beans were from a can & the corn was previosly frozen. One of my teenaged kids asked for a churrasco (skirt steak) and I know that it was cooked in a pan & not on the grill. It tasted just like a fried steak. The cole slaw was tasteless. The service wasn't that great either, at no time did they ask us if everything was ok or if we wanted anything else and we had to request for the water. Oh and by the way, it's too expensive and portions are small. What happened to Uncle Tom's BBQ pit??? It's been replaced by a brick wall! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant at all. Pros: The garlic bread was the only thing that was good. Cons: Everything else, from the food to the service to the pricing. more

The best ribs in town! 1/7/2003

Miami's oldest & still best, taken right from the menu and after eating there you'll definitely agree. After 56 years the menu has not changed the least bit, from its original design. The secret BBQ sauce recipe is still a mystery, and eating there is still a delight. Don't hesitate and try it for yourself, If not you'll be missing out in an important piece of our City's history and an amazing meal. Pros: Fast Service, Taste, BBQ Sauce Cons: Size, Closes on Tuesdays more
