My Experience at TCMA 6/13/2011

Two years ago I was 35 points overweight and as lazy as they make 'em. My friend talked me into trying a jiu-jitsu class at Thomas Clifford's Martial Arts. In fear of looking weak I accepted the invitation. My first jiu-jitsu class was one of the most incredible experience of my life. I thought I was going to get taught how to tap people out just like they do in the UFC. I am embarressed about how shallow my expecations were. I didn't learn a whole lot about submissions that day but what I did learn was a whole lot about myself. That's what martial arts is all about. Kyoshi Clifford didn't push me to the breaking point he motivated me to push myself PAST the breaking point. Now, when I step onto the mat at TCMA it is about coming face to face with my inner demons. Every class you experience the voice in your head that says ""you can't do this anymore Quit Quit Quit"" becomes just a little more faint. That's what makes TCMA so unique and special. The instructors care immensely about every single person that steps onto the mat. Everyone is treated like family. They learn about you as you learn about yourself and provide each individual with the tools to be come an incredible martial artist. I can't recommend Thomas Clifford's Martial Arts enough. If you want to learn top-level martial arts and the become best version of yourself that you could possibly be, in a safe environment, TCMA is the place for you. Give it a try... more

Outstanding School !! 5/2/2011

Thomas Clifford Martial Arts is beyond outstanding! The moment you walk through the doors you are welcomed & feel right at home & part of the family. The staff is the most sincere & caring group of people I've ever met. I am a person who comes from a fitness background & the classes are always a challenge no matter what level you are. From beginner to advanced, they focus on challenging each individual throughout their journey. The staff is educated, knowledgeable, and extremely professional. Thomas Clifford Martial Arts has something so much more to offer than martial arts alone, it has HEART. I am very proud to be part of such an amazing dojo. more

Don't go here. 5/2/2011

First, I was completely turned off by their strong-armed, persistent sales tactics. They will corner you into signing up for 6 months right after your first class, at $100/mo. They will tell you that this price includes beginner and advanced classes (""BBC""). Then, after you advance to BBC, they will corner you again and try to get you to sign up for another year at $150/mo, and basically tell you that you can't continue with advanced classes until you do this. Mind you, this is way before your first contract is up, so you are signing up for 18 months total. They will text you nonstop and call you when you miss too many classes (in their opinion). They have called me on my cell phone twice in one day to see when I am coming to class. But it is not because they are concerned about you, it is all about sales and pressure tactics. more

A real dojo 4/18/2011

I have trained in the martial arts for many years, at many different schools. Some have been better than others but Thomas Clifford's Martial Arts Academy out performs ALL of them by far. The quality of the instruction, staff, and students is unsurpassed. I have personally benefited from the instruction there and if I could, I would bring EVERYONE I could to train there. If you are looking to get in shape, gain confidence, learn to defend yourself, or all of the above, do yourself a favor--take action NOW and TRY a class. You will be glad that you did. more

Thank you for inquiring about our classes. The following is a description of how our programs are structured and general information on what you can expect when you get started. This is written as though you do not have any Martial Arts experience. If you do, I apologize for making such an assumption. We offer a beginner program that is designed to safely and effectively get you in great shape. The class is formatted and taught with the premise that participants are: * out of shape * have no Martial Arts experience at all * not the least bit flexible or athletic. Every exercise is attemptable, and therefore attainable. I am not sure if you are doing anything to stay in shape right now. If you are following an exercise routine, it will only help. We offer classes in the morning and evening. Our programs are age appropriate, meaning that adults train with adults. We have separate classes for children. Having two separate classrooms allows us to run beginner classes for children and adults at the same time. The two biggest obstacles for adults getting started are a fear of getting injured and a fear of being embarrassed. That may sound strange, but I am sure you can totally appreciate both concerns. Martial Arts are about self-improvement, not self-destruction. You will have a difficult time not losing weight, especially in the Beginner Program. You will definitely notice your flexible improving significantly. You will also increase your strength, and will feel it in your legs, right away. I recommend that you come in and take a class. Meet some of the members and ask them what they think. Our number one asset is our existing students. We are fortunate to have a friendly and focused group of people at TCMA. I think you will enjoy the school. Our tuition is only $97 per month, and we often give away up to a full month of classes for free. Oh yeah, this might sound like a cheesy sales pitch, but the whole thing is a lot of fun. Give us a call at 1 800 311 KICK or on my cell at 1 845 826 5149. Please let me know how you heard about us, and call me with any questions. Email and Facebook have become the preferred method of inquiry, but it rarely answers questions in a satisfactory way. Again, thank you for your interest in TCMA. I look forward to seeing you in class. Respectfully, Thomas Clifford
