The Scene
Cantinetta is housed in a small 1870's former sherry distillery and is actually located on the patio of Tra Vigne. Originally remodeled in order to sell products made and used by Tra Vigne, Cantinetta's new incarnation is inspired by French wine bars and Italian enoteccas. The goal? In founding partner, Kevin Cronin's words, "increasing the opportunity for locals and visitors alike to drop in to drink and eat, learn a bit of wine industry news or gossip, and feel a part of this community."
The Food
The range of selections of wines is wide, varying from California Cabernet Sauvignons to Grenache from five different countries. The menu offers many such groupings--taste tours through subjects such as 1997 Italian Reds or featured wines from a single vintner (the chosen winemaker changes monthly). In addition to the wines, "boconcini per vini" or "little bites for wine" are also served. Among the offerings, house smoked salmon with lemon asparagus and marinated white anchovies with celery and fennel salad.
