Excellent NYS College 9/22/2005

I attended SUNY Stony Brook in the 90s. I dormed on campus and had a wonderful experience. Since then, the dormitories have been updated & renovated and are just phenomenal now - internet connections, cable, etc. Professors are great - knowledgeable, helpful. Tuition is reasonable as well - you can get a top notch education here for less than 1/2 of what it would cost at a private university. I highly recommend all prospective NYS college students check out SUNY Stony Brook. more

great school, great professors and great value! 8/27/2005

This school is the reason I have done so well in life - they started me on the right path and taught me what I needed for grad school, and beyond. I received my bachelors from there and loved the teachers I had. The campus is really beautiful and they have done lots of construction over the past few years to add new buildings, parking lots and architecture to it! more

Top rated shcool without the pricetag 8/21/2005

For New York state residents, there is no better school. Many of the programs are in the top 25 and some are even in the top 10. The engineering school is excellent. Being a former student, I can say that I made the right choice by going here. There is something always going on, but when it comes to the weekends, many of the students go home. You can;t beat the education you get for the price and location. more

Great College Experience 8/15/2005

I had a great time at Stony Brook. The campus is beautiful. There is a huge recreation center, a fountain on campus and a new football stadium. The classes were educational as long as you attended and I made some great friends. It's also far enough from nyc, but close enough to come home on weekends. It was a great college experience and I miss it. more

Stony Brook 8/15/2005

I have many friends who attend Stony Brook and their opinions of this school goes both ways. The positive of this school is that it's not too far from New York City and has somewhat of a good reputation in the medical field. But like most SUNY Universities, this is also a party school. Your child will learn if they have the will to learn. Make no mistake, a person can learn a lot going to Stony Brook, or any other University, it just depends mostly on their own will. I would recommend Stony Brook to anyone who wants to experience freedom yet not to the extent of an out of state college. This University, for now, still has a respectable reputation from New York City employers. I don't know if this will be the case a few years from now, but give it a go. It's not the worst SUNY out there. more

A hotbed of innovation and Long Island's premier learning institution 8/13/2005

Stony Brook University, a part of the State University of New York system, has been on the forefront of innovation for years. Its physics, chemistry and medical departments rival those of Ivy League schools. There are Nobel Prize winning faculty such as Paul C. Lauterbur, Ph.D., who pioneered the MRI in the 1970's as a member of Stony Brook faculty. The school is economical option and you get a near Ivy League education at a state school budget. more
