Splash Cafe is the absolute best place to go in Pismo Beach. The chowder is too good. I have never had anything there that I didn't like. They do serve you very quickly, especially for how busy they always are. They could use some more seating, but that is part of the experience. Waiting, watching, standing by a table that you think is about to become available. It's half the fun. I think it is very reasonably priced. I have fed my family of 6 there for less than $40. Which if you've ever gone to any regular chain restraunt, you would know is pretty great deal. We always enjoy our meal, have plenty to eat, and leave satisfied. I never go to Pismo without going to Splash, sometimes several times during our visit; and, we have made the trip over there from the Valley just to go to Splash. more

i've only been here once but i still remember the taste of the clam chowder. the clam chowder has a distinct buttery taste. i would definitely stop by here if i were in the area again. more

MUST TRY clam chowder 8/31/2007

I was surprised when I saw a line out the door, snaking around the corner, for TAKE OUT. After all, it is only clam chowder, right? Wrong. It was one of the best clam chowders I've ever had. And the grilled bread is sooooo good! Splash Cafe is a short walk from the pier. I would suggest skipping the crowded dining room and taking your chowder to go. It's worth the wait. Best Clam Chowder!!!!! 8/20/2007

I loved this place!!!!!!! It was the best place we foound in Pismo!!!! Yes the lines are long but the clam chowder is worth the wait! It is served in a sourdough bread bowl and costs less than $6!!!! Where else would you find a great tasting chowder at that price?! The fish and chips were fantastic!!!! I totally recommend this place!! It was definitely worth our drive!!!! Pros: Great Food and Service!!!! Cons: Limited seating more

look for the line out the door, best chowder in cali! 5/23/2007

A friend and i were visiting the area and were looking for a CLEAN, and fresh seafood place near the beach, it was the only place with a HUGE line out the door. which in my experience means it must be cheap and worth the wait! The menus of decent size and good variety for a fast food type of place compared to surrounding resturants. i was told by a local in the line to have the fish and chips or clam chowder in the sourdough bowl) he seemed pretty passionate about it so i decided to try both. I was not diappointed both were great, cheap, very large portions and very fresh! my friend however wasn't quite as lucky he, got a burger. the only draw back is u get kinda rushed to have your order ready when u get up to the register, and its kinda noisy and crowded. and if your deciding not to get your food to go theres very limited seating which isn't very comfortable. NOTE: ladies there are nowhere to put your purse down you just gotta keep it on you if you wanna keep it, and they do this thing when its really crowded where the busboy sweeps thru the seating area and asks you to leave once your finished eating! literally. ive returned many times and witness it everytime its a regular thing. Seems kinda odd but it ties into the whole beach bum feel of the place. Pros: Great fresh chowder at a great price Cons: Limited seating, and kinda rundown more

Awesome clam chowder 11/5/2005

The chowder in the toasted bread bowl is just amazing. So good and a really great treat, especially with the cool weather coming upon us. No matter what time of day I go, it's always crowded. They either have just an amazing recipe or they put some kind of highly addictive substance in that chowder. Either way, give me more! But seriously, if you want a delicious bowl of clam chowder, this is where you go. more

Incredible Clam Chowder, be sure to check it out. Their other food is also pretty good and for a time they even offered fried twinkies. Yum. Usually I just order the Chowder and go elsewhere for the main meal since their prices are a bit high. PROS: Chowder CONS: Everything else more

Just try it, they have won the chowder championship since I can remember and the quality is always amazing...MUST get it in the sourdough bread bowl. I live on the East coast and dream about Splash...I might take a trip just to get some:) Pros: Amazing chowder, Friendly service, Fun Beach Atmosphere Cons: Usually crowded, not enough seating more

The Splash Cafe, located near the pier in Pismo Beach, has the absolute best gourmet clam chowder in the world. The clam chowder is served in a large San Francisco-style sourdough bread bowl, which has been buttered and lightly toasted. The environment is beach casual and fun. Service is fast and friendly.
