Dirty gym / Questionable instructors 2/25/2011

I was told by a friend that this is the place to go. I went. The first class was okay. The instructor spent more time looking at other things than techniques. The mats were dirty. There was ""something"" in the bathroom toilet that made me sick. And I am a guy. I had hoped for a more civil environment but everyone acted like they did not want to be there. I have never seen a more ridiculous workout area and more people all sitting around talking or on their computer in my life. I would not recommend this place unless you are a Lidell leftover. more

Hard Workouts/Dedicated Instructors 11/26/2010

I have been at this gym for a few years now and am always impressed at the new class styles and ways that they motivate me. The classes are very tough but they let you try one for free to make sure it is your thing before even talking to you about prices or contracts (i really enjoy watching people take their first class now that i have been there for a while). There definitely is a range of personalities from the instructors and finding the one that you work best with you is what will make this the only gym you go to while living in SLO or just a class you tried one time. While i cannot recommend to EVERY person that this is the gym for them i can recommend that trying the free class is always worth it (especially for me). more

This is a fantastic gym 10/31/2010

Some people don't know what to expect when going to an authentic MMA-style gym. This gym provides a killer workout if you just want that, and knowledgeable instruction in fighting if you want to go further. It's small enough that everyone will know you by name after a while. But if you're one of those people who keeps hand sanitizer in her desk ... and her purse ... and her car ... and you're freaked out by the prospect of ever coming into contact with somebody's else skin or sweat, this probably isn't the gym for you. more

Incompetent staff and unhygienic... 8/21/2008

The staff has no idea how to run a business and it shows! The owner, ceo and staff are all ""fighters"" and do not understand business ethics. They can easily sign you up for a membership, but that is it (they can't even handle billing you monthly, it goes through a separate service)! There is no communication between the owner, ceo and staff members so good luck trying to get the most of your money... or cancel your membership for that matter. \r \r I will admit that they do know what they are doing when it comes to training. However, they do not clean the sweat off the mats in between grappling and kickboxing classes. I liked the workout, but not sharing bodily fluids with all of the other members. Several members and fighters would develop staph infections as a result. I am not sure if that is a violation of any health codes... either way it is REALLY gross!\r \r I would not recommend joining this gym to anyone. Pros: Decent workout Cons: Incompetent staff and unhygienic conditions more
