this place is amazing!!! I love Spike and Dawn! Although this place has received some bad reviews i have only had great experiences here!! i broke both of my arms( no fault of the ranch)and was unable to come out to the ranch for about two months, Spike called and asked how i was and when i was healed i returned to riding with no problem. I have only fabulous things to say about this place!!!! more

The experience we had at shaddy lakes was awful, my grandaughter took lessons for 3 years, all was good until she was hurt very badly, no fault of shaddy lakes, but she was hospitalized for 7 days. They could of cared less not a call ,a card nothing! Then when she returned 8 weeks later, she was totaly ignored,we were shocked at how we were treated, after taking lesson for 3 years and buying a horse from them, they only care about you if you fit into there click,and we removed the horse from there and found the horse to be extremely under weight, they are not easy people to deal with and only take good care of there horses.BAD EXPERIENCE DON'T GO THERE more

My daughter has been taking lessons since she was 5 (8 yrs old now) and I've watched not only how my daughter is trained in western riding, but also how Jenny and Spike interact with both the kids and parents. My daughter has really matured through these lessons, it's something she and I eagerly look forward to each week. The horses are gentle, the lessons strong on fundamentals.\r \r With Jenny and Spike, everything is straight forward, no B.S., what you see is what you get. The stables where the horses are boarded are clean, the horses well fed, watered, and provided adequate shade. Horse owners, you are responsible for your horses! You pay someone for a service, they provide that service, but you have a responsibility to be on site regularly and maintain the relationship with your animal and oversee it's proper health care.\r \r The negative comments on this site are a bad joke. My nine year old son has been taking riding lessons at Shady Lakes for several months, and we have found the owners, Spike and Jenny, to be kind, caring and compassionate. My son is classified as ""special needs"" and has both behavioral and developmental challenges. Spike and Jenny have helped him to gain confidence in his abilities, and are also teaching him valuable lessons in self-reliance, and in how to respect and care for animals. My family and I met Spike and Jenny back in 2003 when we were looking for a good, safe and friendly place for my daughter to learn how to horse ride. We soon fell in love with horseback riding because of the great atmosphere that Spike and Jenny fostered on their ranch. Not only did my daughter learn how to ride but my two sons as well. We eventually purchased a horse from them and they were a God send for us to learn just how to care and feed our horse. We spent about a year or so out there at the ranch on a regular basis and then moved to a ranch closer to our home since we were commuting an hour back and forth to the ranch. We have only the best of memories from our time spent at Shady Lake Ranch and have on occasion crossed paths with Spike and Jenny since those days and I can honestly say it's like seeing old friends again. I accidentally came across this website page and felt that I had to give my own testimony of what happened when I was involved after reading some of the negative comments. Owning or being involved with horses is a huge commitment and a lot of work, just hang around the ranch for a day or so and see the care the horses require and then think about how all of that work needs to be done every day of the year! Spike has many years of experience with horses and I can only say that it was great to see how he could handle the horses and read them to know what they needed. Jenny adds her experience when she teaches the kids to ride. I testify to their responsibility, integrity, honesty, reliability and hard work on the ranch and would highly recommend them to whoever is looking to really live with their animals and work with them. Shaddy Lakes Ranch offers a wonderful environment for both children and their parents to enjoy equine activities. The staff and owners of Shaddy Lakes Ranch are knowledgable and professional about all aspects of horsemanship. They also provide excellent care for all horses boarded at their facility. I would highly recomend a visit to Shaddy Lakes if you are interested in learning about horses, boarding a horse or just want to spend a relaxing day on an awsome horse ranch. I would highly recommend this ranch! I bought all my horses from the owners. They have gave all my children lessons. They saved my horse last year from dieing. They are devoted to their business and care about the people that come out there. They have always let me know if there was somthing going on with one of my horses and guided me on what to do. My children have attended summer camp for two years in a row. I have been involved with the ranch for almost two years and I have only witnessed love and compassion and devotion to the animals and people. I have referred many people to the ranch and all seem to be extreamly happy with the service! Pros: very devoted owners more

These negative comments are from the same person-that is over run with guilt that she may have caused her own horses death with contaminated grain that she stored with her fly spray and other pesticides. Number one-if she cared for her older horse-she would have been out more often-and taken better care of her grain storage. If soooo many horses have died-which are our clients by the way-how would we stay in business? This stable has been here for 25 years and is a huge 'kids ranch'. This lady is so selfish that she would rather point fingers and take more time and money on trying to accuse us-rather than taking responsiblity and buying her daughter another horse to love. Her daughter will end up bitter and horsesless because of this mess. Guilt sure drives people to do stupid things and when does it stop? I invite ANYONE out to see ALL the healthy and happy horses and kids here at our ranch and I dare anyone to 'COWBOY UP' abd come face us in person instead of this cowardly letter writing. Please don't board there. It is an accident waiting to happen. There have been many horses die out there, because when people dont go out there for a londg time.. they acpect the owners to watch them.. well these people dont. DONT BOARD THERE. Pros: HORRIBLE BOARDING Cons: DONT BOARD more
