My Experiences at the SRF Temples 12/5/2010

My experiences at the SRF temples is similar to the Catholic church. It is very strict and controlling. They worship Yogananda not God. Jesus is a bi product to get more business. It is just that, a huge business. They layoff employees too. Not very spiritual. The nuns all have their own power rules. Everyone whispers. You are watched at all times. You can mediate at home or in a park and receive the same blessings. more

One of L.A.'s Best-Kept Secrets 7/1/2008

I randomly heard about the Lake Shrine while surfing the internet. I never would have known it existed otherwise, even though I've probably driven past it about 9,000 times. If you haven't yet checked it out, I highly recommend you go. It's just a great space to be outdoors, take a walk, snap a few photos. When I went, there were a lot of sightseers from other countries? The Lake Shrine must be mentioned in many guidebooks?but it never seemed too busy. Everyone just wanders and does their own thing. You can't relax on any of the grass, but there are plenty of benches, both in the shade and in the sun, that you can sit on while reading, meditating or doing whatever it is you do. I'm sure I'll be back. Pros: Outdoors, Beautiful Scenery, Peaceful, Giant Koi Cons: Somewhat Touristy more

But seriously, I love this place. Great place to go and meditate and just walk around the lake; and even over it, if you're advanced enough... more

Peace in the big city. 5/21/2002

If you're looking for a place to get away, this is the place to go. The gardens here are spectacular, and you can tuck yourself away on a bench and read a book or just reflect. This is a non-denominational shrine dedicated to everything from Christianity to Buddhism. My recommendation is to take a picnic and make the afternoon of it . more
