Saratoga Wine Exchange

After reading a favorable review in the New York Times, I searched for two wines online and "found" them at Saratoga Wine Exchange. I called to ascertain that they were in stock. They referred me to their website, saying that they couldn't take the order over the phone (!). I went to the website and placed the order, which the site accepted. I got an email confirming that the order was received. A hold was put on my credit card. TWO WEEKS later, I received an email saying that "unfortunately" the wine was out of stock and they couldn't get any more and that they were releasing the hold on my credit card. It was of course much too late to find this highly reviewed "bargain" anywhere else, after keeping me from looking on first inquiry.. It's outrageous that they accepted the order verbally and online without telling me that it wasn't in inventory and then took two weeks to let me know that they couldn't get it. I would suggest that online wine customers look elsewhere to satisfy their needs. more

I ordred a case of wine listed both on their site and on Wine Searcher. After charging my credit card and recalling the wine enroute, I was told the wine was more expensive than the advertized price. Fortunately they did refund the charge. more

Prices for the items in the store are VERY expensive. And forget about the items they list on their web site. Although they claim to have them in stock, they do not. In my case, they clearly tried to order the wine after accepting and confirming my order. In doing so, they realized that their cost had gone up, so they called me and told me that the wine was no longer available. When I logged back into their site, I saw the same bottle of wine was now listed at a much higher price. I asked them to honor their pricing and they refused. Instead, they tried to get me to buy something else that they had in stock (probably with a higher profit margin). These people don't know how to treat customers or conduct business fairly. I'd say stay away. more

You can't beat this place. The amount of high quality wine at their shop is outstanding and their prices are very reasonable. Anytime I haven't found what I was looking for on the shelf, they were able to special order it for me without a problem and it only took a few days to get in. Also, if you're not sure what you want or are looking for a recomendation, ask for Bill. That guy knows everything. Great wine, great service. Pros: great selection, reasonable prices, great customer service Cons: a little difficult to find on Phila St. (go on Spring St.) more
