Sala Thai

The food in the restaurant is tasty - plenty of fresh veggies, good sauces, nice ""heat"". However, they seem to be unable to fill take-out requests correctly. To top it off, their most recent snafu (yup, there were others) was blamed on us not unpacking the triple knotted bag and opening each meal box to make sure they did it right. Vague excuses (never an apology!) on their part followed: ""Someone else answered the phone (i.e. to take the order) while I had to run outside to do something to my car tire "" (I kid you not!) and ""the cook gets confused when there are too many special requests"" (green curry and NO tofu in this instance) - please ...!! Where is the ""sorry, we made a mistake and added the tofu you asked us not to put in ... how can we fix this?"" Suffice it to say that there are other thai restaurants with equally good food and better customer service. So long sala thai. Pros: great food Cons: can't get take-out orders straight more

I was so disappointed when I tried this place! Everyone had really talked it up like it was so fantastic - I'd never heard anything bad at all. The service was extremely attentive, and the decor was nice, but the food was just so ... mediocre. The massaman curry - which I've tried at half the Thai restaurants in Metro Detroit - was the worst I've ever had. It tasted like Chinese food laced with peanut butter. Seriously. I will try it again because the waitstaff was so great, but I'm still reeling from how truly disappointed I was by the experience! more

Sala Thai has great thai food. It has been my family's favorite for the past few years.I love their phad see yew and their spring rolls taste soo good. It's a nice restuarant and the service is pretty good. Also, I have never had a problem carrying out the food. Pros: Good thai food, great service Cons: N/A more

I had the Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai Scallops - Hot, and a Thai Ice tea. The food was great and everyone else at the table was very pleased with the food and service. The decor in the old firehouse location is something a little different, but quite nice. Pros: Great Thai Food more

Located in a renovated fire station at the corner of Eastern Market, the indoor decor is just as exotic. The food is quality Thai but I can't say that I've ever sampled from their sushi bar (I go to Thai restaurants for Thai food). The prices aren't cheap but you definitely get what you pay for. The booths on raised wooden floors are a nice touch. more

Great food, quite authentic! We try to make it Sala Thai at least once a week to try a new dish and haven't been disappointed yet! more
