If you want to be asked to ""wrap it up"", this is the spot 7/20/2009

The restaurants great allure on a beautiful day is to sit outside; we were a group of 5 girls. We were told the last large table had a reservation, but we could sit inside. It was 85 out, so we said no to inside, but could we sit somewhere outside even if we have to push tables together. The owner (assumed to be the owner) said ok dont worry. We sat down, looking forward to good authentic greek food. The prices are very high, and I am greek, and this to me was absurdly high. One chicken souvlaki, with a side of rice costs 18$. That is ridiculous. My friend ordered calamari, which was an entree, came on a large plate, and it looked like the calamari was spread around to appear to look like more pieces. There was no sauce (which you ALWAYS get nice and hot); she asked for some, and when the waiter came with it, it was def. from a jar from the fridge. When we got all our food, my friend who ordered pastitsio was told there was none left. Why would he wait until we all had our entree's that she could not eat?! We had to continuously ask for bread and water (we all ordered spreads that required bread). It wasnt until I asked the waiter in greek for more bread, that he generously filled the basket to the top. We were having good conversation, still clearly in the middle of our dinner, when the owner guy comes over and akwardly stands in the front of our table. He asked us to please get it going because he had that reservation (which we assumed he rearranged to accomodate us). Even though we were the newest customers to sit, he asked us to leave first. We got the check a minute later, while we are still eating. A woman, assumed to be his partner came over a minute after (when Im trying to gather the money for the check) and asked if we were done. We all stared at her, laughed and said no. We were infuriated. My friend got her salad to go since she couldnt eat anymore. She got it back in a bag, and it spilled all inside; when she handed it to the busboy to have it re-wrapped, it spilled all over the table and my friends and their purses. Pros: Unfortunately the food was great Cons: Unavailable entree, terrible service more

Wonderful Greek and Mediterranean food on a grand scale 9/27/2008

This is Greek and Mediterranean food on a grand scale. Premium ingredients and attention to fresh seafood also equals premium prices. The wine list includes many greek bottles with nothing less than $37 which is a bit much for table wine. The food here is delightfully prepared and presented. The chef and owner is dazzling with fish. True to the basics of Greek cuisine, everything is heavy on the olive oil, lemon, and oregano. This simple combination combined with fire equals a great way to cook the fine ingredients. I enjoyed the shrimp and feta cheese and tomato sauce appetizer. The main entree of grilled lamb chops were perfectly griled to medium. Deserts were good also. Service was impeccable Pros: staff, values, fresh food more

Best salad & meat ball 8/19/2007

We love the salad and meat ball. We'd stick with just app, instead of ordering main dish (not so impressed, very huge though) Service is, well, lets just say typical Greenk style. Pros: Greek salad, meat ball, very authentic Cons: Pricy, very greeky service more

the isle of Crete can be found in NYC 6/15/2007

This was another surprise to have discovered this amazing restaurant. Everything was wonderful there is nothing to say bad about it. The food was great the music added the cahrm I have been looking for. Thanks to newnewyorker com I found another piece of paradise.. I'll be back soon and this time with lots of friends. Pros: everything was wonderful Cons: not in manhattan more

Best real Greek food in all of Queens! 5/18/2007

If you want real Greek food authentic to the island of Crete, this is the place to go. The service is outstanding, the owners are always there (just like the old school authentic Italian eateries) and they are the most down to earth people. If the weather is nice, sit outside and enjoy privacy behind some high bushes and plants that allow you to see just enough outside. Try the octopus and loukaniko (sausage) as starters. Pros: Great food, great atmosphere, what else do you need? more

real greek 4/22/2006

this place has good food. seafood is great! get the octupus. order the cheese too! unlike the usual greek restaurants i've been to. it's real greek dishes (not just greek salad, falafel, gyro, etc.... if you want the usual, don't go here, these items are not even on the menu) downside is: hummus is disappointing. i wouldn't get any meat dishes, they are dry and tough. this place is a little pricey and the portions are average in size. be prepared to spend at least $70 on dinner, if you are drinking wine, much more. overall, a great place for a dinner date. if the weather is nice, there is a lovely patio that wraps around the restaurant. more

Very romantic 2/13/2006

I really like the place.......veryyyy romantic! Candle lit and surrounded by beautiful greenary. Everything on the menu looked good..lots of variety.....I especially loved the dips, the fish and the greek wine! And the service was amazing....felt like a queen :-) I'd definately go there again.....I felt very comfortable and pampered! Pros: Romantic, Good food and Wine, Comfortable more

Good but expensive 1/20/2006

This restaurant is good if you want to try a large variety of traditional Greek food. The atmosphere is very nice and traditional Greek. However it is quite expensive and they don't show the prices outside (for main dishes over 20 dollars). more

never had greek food like this 8/2/2005

The food here is so authentic, and the meals just feel light and tasty. One thing I highly recommend is to order a dessert (specifically the athenian creme cake). It is absolutely one of the best desserts I have had in a long time. more

excellent! 4/11/2003

We live around the corner from Sagapo and never stopped by until tonight- more than pleasantly surprised! the specials were excellent, everything was delicious down to the olive oil they serve when you sit down. the seafood, horiatiki and tzatziki was ausome. service was great too! only drawback is that space is a bit tight at some tables, but all in all a great place to eat that we will be back to many more times! more

great family-run place 3/21/2003

The food at S'Agapo is excellent and could well change your opinion of Greek food. I'm a vegetarian and found plenty to eat; spreads, veggies, salads, beans, moussaka. You can tell care is taken to make the dishes look and taste good; this is no half-assed Greek place. I'm definitely going back and dragging friends so we can order lots of different dishes and share them all! Pros: great food, outdoor seating more
