Editorial review from Citysearch 9/23/2012

My husband and I went there. This was not our first time. But now I think non-Americans are invisible to the staff. No one noticed us for some time. We ordered heart-stopper and 2 pizza slices with vegetarian toppings. Total bill was about $21 and I put $3 as tip even we were ordering over the counter. We were served slices with uncooked toppings. This place has board over counter ""Never question cook's judgement"" I thought these guys must be really good at what they do so better not to question them. This must be their new cooking style to serve pizza slice with uncooked toppings. But when I went back to get the box for leftovers I realized other people were having slices with fully baked toppings. more

Pfeh...should have stayed home 1/10/2012

I've never been to an open mic night before, so when I saw it on the Poynt app on my Android, I thought it'd be fun to check it out-that there was food and beer was only icing on the cake. Unfortunately, I never got to sample any of it. At about 9:30, I walked in and sat down at one of the many empty tables across the aisle from the bar. I looked at the menu and had long since decided what I wanted to eat when I started wondering whether or not they were still serving food, as nobody had approached me about an order. There was loud music playing, but they hadn't yet ""opened"" the mic. There was a small group at the bar, but neither of the two bartender-types, nor the fellow who appeared to be the kitchen guy seemed so busy that they wouldn't have noticed someone new sitting down. After making sure to read the front of the menu thoroughly, and that it did, indeed, say that they served at least some kinds of food til 1 ayem, 7 days a week, I started looking around. I refuse to wave a server down-I should never have to, especially considering they weren't all that busy. Instead I tried for more polite eye contact, but it appeared that the two bartenders, especially, were more interested in either shouting about touching family members inappropriately (not kidding), hugging people at the bar (a few strides from me, if that-he came all the way around to MY side of the bar to hug this person) or eating what appeared to be fries or chips. To his credit, the kitchen guy might have been into something (work-related), but I really couldn't tell. All three of them seemed to be making a concerted effort NOT to notice me. Finally I got up and went to the large window at the front of the restaurant where Kitchen Guy was working. I asked if they were still serving food, and he began with a yes, but only if I promised not to ask for anything too complicated-I got the impression he'd packed most or part of the kitchen away. I told him I'd been sitting at the table for 10 minutes and nobody had said a word to me the whole time, and he told me that they don't do table service, that you have to either tell him or go to the bar. Hrm. I must've missed that memo. Dude was very nice when we talked, and I think he might (?) have regretted that I'd had a bad experience, but I didn't stick around. I live in a small town about 40 minutes from Raleigh, so I was not just dropping by on a whim. I went to this place ON PURPOSE, to have beer and pizza, and to have a good time watching people sing. I've worked in retail for many years and my best friend is an experienced server. I think she'd agree that allowing any customer-and especially one who might have made a weekly habit out of Tuesday nights at Ruckus-to sit unacknowledged on a night no busier than tonight is just bad form. Really bad form. All they had to do was say hello. I would have been perfectly agreeable when it came to asking for uncomplicated food, and it would have been really nice to have been approached at my table and educated in their process for future reference. Unfortunately, not one of them could bring themselves to start that conversation with me. more

The worst of everything 10/24/2011

Cramped: Tables are placed end to the bar so patrons are constantly getting bumped into. more

WOW! 3/22/2011

Read so many great reviews on this place...what a disappointment. First it was hard to find, crammed into the corner of the shopping center. Not at all what it looked like on the website. Once inside, cashier was more interested in talking about today was his Thursday rather than taking my order and chit chatting. ""Ozzy Osborne"" playing loudly and MTV on the TV...sound overload! Sat outside. Waited for 15 minutes for our food to come out and had ordered a ""WRAP"" and then it was not the right order. It was sitting inside amoungst all the pizzas. Guess I am either too old for this place or ordered the ""wrong"" thing. Pizza and college boys was all I saw at this establishment. more

good bar food 9/12/2010

This is an awesome spot for some cold beers and good bar food. Will stop by again to expand furthur into the menu. I didn't really get to ask questions about it but i'm excited to, because everything I tried was awesome! more

Ruckus Pizza, Pasta, Spirits and Burgers? 9/5/2010

From the gigantic 24"" square pizza to the burgers and mahi mahi you'll love everything on the menu. They have healthier options as well such as chicken wraps and iceberg lettuce salads. Daily drink specials to accommodate the savvy shopper and buy a pint keep the glass Thursdays. more

Cool little hole-in-the-wall 5/11/2010

This is a cute little place tucked in a corner near the NC State area. The new location in Cary is much more stylish, but this place has a lot of character. The food is awesome, from the pizza to the calzones to the subs, etc. And although potentially a bit difficult, there are coupons to be found to get an even cheaper price than they offer. Their specials are the way to go to get great food for cheap. Fun place. more

The parm sandwiches are good, but dont order the burgers! 3/8/2010

We go the Ruckus in Cary, which is run by the same people I understand. They have pretty decent italian sandwitches. Pizza is so so, but man, the hamburgers are AWFUL. Dry and small and tasted like they were reheated in a microwave. But if you are looking to have some cold beers, maybe some bar food, and don't want to spend a ton of money, its a great place! Pros: quick service, nice and fun! Cons: Some food is good, some isnt. more

Good Eats 11/30/2009

I ate here after a few beers and it hit the spot. Good service and good atmospere. Pros: Good Food Cons: No parking more

Great Food, Friendly Staff, Simply Best Pizza!!!! 10/16/2009

Truly awesome pizza and love the lettuce wedge!!!! The staff is always friendly and the food hot and fresh. We bypass several pizza restaurants to frequent this one in Cary because we love the atmosphere, food, and friendliness of staff and owners. Truly the best!!!!!!! Wish it was closer. Pros: Food, Location, Friendly Staff Cons: Could be bigger more

dumpy, loud, cramped, expensive 9/22/2009

I don't even know where to begin with this nightmare. Ruckus is loud and the bands are terrible. The food that passes for italian is awful (pizza, subs, etc). The beer on tap is pedestrian and predictable (bottles are a little better). The worst though, is the small location. The maze of college kids and hangers on to college makes this CRAMPED space seem more like a weird labrynth which smells like smoke and beer. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid Pros: close to campus Cons: close to campus more

It's like Moe's Tavern in Raleigh 7/22/2009

My fiance and I have been going to Ruckus for so long that they know our names, our drinks, and how we usually take whatever we are eating. This is our little home away from home. Why? Because, the food is fantastic and the bartenders are great (both in their drinks and personality). The food is what most would consider average bar food, but there isn't much on the menu that we haven't tried; everything is excellent. Lastly, the pizza: huge NY style slices (thin and you have to fold in the middle), generous cheese and toppings, delicious. My favorite pizza and bar hands down. Pros: Good Food, drinks, and people Cons: Wish it was bigger more

Best Bar in Raleigh 7/8/2009

this is truly my favorite bar in Raleigh. The bar staff is the best that I've ever seen. They always have good drink specials (love mug nights) and the food is amazing (gg on the pizza philly). Their beer/beers on tap selection is somewhat lacking, but there's always 5-6 there that I drink. Signed, TWW Pros: bar staff, drink specials, food Cons: beer/beers on tap selection more

Good, cheap pizza and beer 2/7/2009

Great beer specials, very affordable/tasty pizza, friendly service, overall a really great place to hang out and have a beer Pros: Good, inexpensive beer and pizza Cons: More of a bar than a restaurant--small/smoky more

Best NY Pizza in Town 12/18/2008

I mover down from NY a few months ago and have been trying to find pizza like this since--thin crispy and delicious--i finally found it! This place is great cheep beer, great food, attentive staff and live music. If I could move in a cot I would. The only thing that was bad was the smoke -- but they got a smoke eater -- problem solved. If you love pizza make it a point to stop by we tried all the rest and Ruckus has them all whipped! Pros: Everything Cons: Too Small to have large parties more

best bar/pizza shop 2/14/2008

its a very comfortable atmosphere good people good food good times. they have one of the most comprehensive menus i have ever seen. all of the food is of equal quality of a high standard. everyone should visit ruckus at least once. more

Taste Like Poo and Cigaretts 10/18/2007

The pizza is part of the box with toppings. The Chicken Philly is great though. The girl bartender sucked and was very rude and dumb. Yes, Dumb. This ashtray, I mean restaurant is really classy though. Pros: Get in and out Fast Cons: Dumb Bartending Girl, Really Dumb- Would you like a drink? No, Im here for the smoke. more

Great Hang-Out 9/20/2007

I've been going to this place for a while now (~3 years) and never once have I had a bad experience that I felt compelled to write about. Though there is some turnover in the bar/restaurant staff (understandable due to it's proximity to NC State) there are a few folks that have been working there for a while and it's small enough that if you've been a few times they will recognize you. The pizza/food is great, they have a great selection of beers, and the $2.50 22oz. mug night is one of the better specials you'll find at a chill place. Pros: Great pizza, fun atmosphere, good specials Cons: Occasionally a bit too smokey and crowded. more

Great neighborhood place with huge slices 6/22/2007

We were looking for a local place with good, inexpensive, thin-crust pizza. Opening the door of Ruckus, we definitely found a local hangout worth our time and money. Originially planning to order 2 slices of pizza each, I glanced over at the guys making pizza right behind the cash register and realized that there was no way we could both eat 2! THEY WERE GIGANTIC! Real NY-size! So we ordered 3 slices to split and took a seat at the bar. The employees were friendly and we felt right at home. The drink specials looked promising -- today was $2 beers and $3.50 shots, but we didn't take advantage this time. Pros: large, delicious pizza; casual bar atmosphere; drink specials Cons: not a ton of seating or ""privacy"" if you're looking for a romantic meal more

Great bar, Great food 11/8/2006

It's a great chill place to eat and drink but watch your bar tabs...the bartenders AND OWNERS like to overcharge people that are drunk!!! They do this even to regular customers!! Other than overcharging drunks, this is a great place to be. more
