Ritual Hair Design

This is truly one of my favorite places to spend time! The staff is so friendly and warm and I feel pampered the moment I walk in. Shawn, the owner, is my hair stylist and has always taken FANTASTIC care of me...and I'm very high maintenance :) Seriously though, she is the BEST! She is always on time and and always professional and always takes the time to listen to what I want. I always leave there with a smile on my face! more

I went to Ritual for the first time the other day (my hair designer recently moved there) and it's professionalism reaches my high expectations. The owner features an artist of the month as well so I look forward to going in not only for a hair appointment, but she has some awesome taste to share in her decor (which I believe is for sale as well). more

I have been to Ritual about 10 times. I tried it from the high reviews in Citysearch and asked for Venus because of all her rave reviews. Venus was fantastic but left the salon. So I tried several other stylists who were ok, but nothing to write home about. So I made an appointment with Shawn the owner. She did a great job with my hair. However. I was shocked by her high price for the cut when after the appointment I went to pay. I want to say it was something ridiculous like $65, which I was not told about before the appointment. I figured it might be higher than the other stylists, I expecting like $45 maybe even $50... but the price was too much. Her prerogative, obviously she has made a name and some people are willing to pay that, but despite the great cut from her I have not been back since. Honestly thought it was a bit pretentious for a salon owner in a strip mall in Hillsboro to charge that much. more

I am new to town and went to the Internet looking for a salon. This was my third local salon attempt since I moved here 6 months ago. I lucked out this time! Kirsten is great. I love my new cut and she is friendly and very good at cutting hair. I will have her color it next time. I expect I'll be just as happy. Thanks Kirsten. You Rock! more

I'm not sure how they've received the Best Of awards over the past few years as my hair experience with them has got to be one of the worst I've ever had. I've read a lot of a stylist by the name of Kim who doesn't seem to be employed there anymore which is a pity, as she seemed to be their only saving grace. Anyway, I paid over $90 for a hair color I could have gotten out of the box. I asked my stylist to go w/a lighter color and it took him 2 1/2 hours to complete a partial weave and w/my experience with other stylist that is completely unacceptable. When he was waiting for the color to set, he seemed completely oblivious to the fact that I was dissatisfied w/the time it had taken him. I also had to go find him when my hair dryer thing turned off. When he started to wash my hair, he ran his fingers through it while it was unshampooed and unconditioned so he was literally pulling at my hair. He also started to dry my hair w/out asking me which way I part it and at that point, I was tired of waiting and ready to leave. When I got back to work, my friends commented that my hair was dark and a taupe like color which was completely opposite of what I wanted. I called the salon asking to have the manager call me back and in the meantime had to go somewhere else to get a color correction done. It would have been a good color if I was a 70 year old woman, but it was drab and dull. I would highly recommend people not going to this business. It's been 3 days later and I'm still waiting for a callback from the manager. So yes, it was hands down one of the worst hair experiences I have ever had. Save your money and time and search elsewhere for a good salon with color experts working there. more

Ok--I've been to a lot of salons including REALLY expensive salons in downtown PDX and the Pearl. I have to say Ritual is absolutely the best. The best deal, the best service, and easy and free parking. I've been getting cuts and color there for several years but I just got the most awesome Thermal Straightening treatment. It will change your life. I didn't have frizzy or uncontrollable hair, just super wavy hair with a poufy mind of it's own. All I can say is my life is 100% easier since this treatment. RUN DON'T WALK. And it's not super expensive either. Love it. XOXO to Ritual Hair. more

I think I have been to every salon from Tanasbourne to Forest Grove looking for a place to get my hair done. Some places are easy to rule out, they're dirty, or obnoxious or too small. I wasn't so sure when I pulled up to the salon because it's in a business park that lacks a certain street appeal, but, wow! I was pleasantly surprised when I went in the door. Friendly, clean, relaxing and beautiful salon. I had the best time there talking with a couple of the stylists and another client. I feel like I just stumbled onto the salon version of Cheers. Hair's great, price is reasonable & service was perfect. I have my next appointment scheduled! more

I'm so glad that someone found Kim. When I first went to Ritual I was scared. Kim made my experience there fun and I kept returning because i loved the way she did my hair. When I went back for an appointment that I had scheduled I was told that she was no longer there and got my hair done by another stylist. more

I had my hair cut by Javaise. Her level of professionalism was extrordinary, never once did I feel worried that she would mess up my hair. She made it seem as though we were just hanging out having fun! I can tell she truly LOVES her job! When she was finished with my hair, it was more like she had created art. I am so pleased with the hair cut and color that it boosts my mood everytime I look in the mirror, and it actually makes doing my hair in the morning more fun. The salon was sooooo clean and well put together. All the girls working there are so friendly and welcoming! I recommend Ritual Hair Design to everyone. I am truly amazed. Pros: Great service, total fun!, and a GREAT hair cut!! Cons: Couldn't find one to save my life more

I found Ritual on this website after my hairdresser moved away. I was very happy with my hair and thought everyone there was very nice. When I went back to work I had two people tell me my hair looked great, which hasn't happened for a while. I also love the hairspray that was recommended. Thanks, Shawn! I'll be back! I have gone to Ritual as well and Kim was my stylist. She was awesome and the only person I trusted to do my A-line. I went back since she left to have my hair done, and the style didn't come out anywhere close to how Kim would do it. If anyone knows what salon she left to, please post! Pros: I only went to Kim and she was great! Cons: She has left and nobody can do my hair the same. more

I went to Kim religiously, and she was incredible. I went in for my regular hair cut recently, and she no longer worked there! I wish I knew where she moved to because I would follow her. Now I'm lost trying to find someone as good as her again, and that's going to be hard to do. more

I went to Ritual for a couple of years. In the beginning, they were great (although very expensive). Towards the end, I was made to wait for pretty much every appointment (while, yes, my stylist and others in the salon sat around and talked). Several times, the tension was pretty thick and I got the impression the people who worked there did not like each other. The last few times, I did not get the cut I expected. On my last visit, the cut was so horrible I felt I needed to have it fixed immediately, yet when I called, I was told by the receptionist that my stylist did not have any available appointments for several days. Not only was there no apology, I got the definite feeling they were not interested in fixing my haircut at all. I ended up going somewhere else to get it fixed, and I'm still going there today (in addition to referring about 6 of my friends to the new salon). UPDATE: When Kim moved, I received a call the day before my appointment informing me of this fact and telling me they rescheduled me with someone else. I was not happy that I didn't find this out until right before my appointment. Needless to say, I didn't go back. I did find Kim and continue to see her regularly! :) Pros: receptionist and stylist are friendly and professional, very clean, fair price Cons: can be hard to find more

I went in for an inverted bob cut after reading such great things about Ritual on Citysearch. First of all, the receptionist was extremely pleasant both when I called and when I arrived--something you don't often find in salons. I was about 15 minutes early for my appointment (the receptionist offered me some water or tea), and my stylist, Kim, came out of the back within 5 minutes of my arrival and took me over to the chair. She talked to me for a few minutes about what I wanted and asked lots of questions so she was sure I got what I wanted. As she began cutting my hair, she continued to clarify and check in with me to see if I wanted her to make any changes. She took a lot of time to give me what I really wanted, and did not become offended when I asked her to change a few small details. Throughout the cut she was very personable...none of that awkward silence you get with a lot of stylists. All in all, it was a great experience, and I will definitely be back! Don't worry about getting your hair cut or colored by Venis at Ritual Hair Design because you don't have to be. You can be confident that it will come out amazing because she knows what she's doing. Even if you're not sure what you want, you can sort of describe it to her and she just knows what you're talking about and does it and it looks beautiful. And she's very confident when she's doing your hair so you don't get that uneasy feeling in your stomach halfway through the hair cut or color. She even cuts my 13 year old son's hair and he wants it to look like he barely got it cut but she always does it perfect....and 13 year olds aren't that easy to please. Definitely go and get your hair done at Ritual Hair Design, you will be HAPPY! Pros: confident and nice staff, easy parking, not stuffy more

Want to get a great haircut in a great environment...go see Kim or Shawn. The receptionist is awesome as well but I always forget how to spell her name D________. They do great quality of work, make you feel great, and offer great products. Pros: offer suggestions, know how what will make you look great Cons: none that I can think of more
