Drive by it......... 6/21/2011

Sister and friends ate there about a week ago. Virtually nobody ir restaurant. Waited over 1.5 hours from time of ordering to time of getting food and they served 2 people first while other had a good wait. The served people waited to eat while food got cold. Others ordered well-done veal and FINALLY got their meals. All the veal was RAW inside, looked frozen. They took it back, one came back butterflyed and looked terrible and was not eaten. The other was still raw and she ate only tiny piece. At end of meal the capuccinos were almost cold. Place is dark and not too many customers and in fact lunch no longer served as of some time ago due to lack of customers. Minimal customer base would suggest that food cannot be fresh. I have eaten there once and it was mediocre. Best I can say is very poor service, questionable freshness, questionable cook skill, and few customers. You can judge, but my suggestion is to skip it. more

Great food and atmosphere 2/12/2010

Great food and atmosphere. Coming into the restaurant is so pleasant that is just like walking into one's home... Food is amazing. I have a few favorites but def. need to highlight the Lobster Ravioli and the Risotto alla Pestatora!!! Amazing... I promise you won't need to add any salt or pepper to your food there. It has the right amount of seasoning. Coming by yourself, with your significant other, or a big group you'll get the best service. This place will def. surpass your expectations!!! Pros: Best seafood in town!!! more

A real family restaurant! 2/12/2010

My girlfriend and I go to this restaurant often because of the great food, the nice laid back (but classy) atmosphere and because it is a real family operated restaurant. I love the home made bread and the salami antipasto... also I recommend the linguine alle vongole and the tiramisu... and if you want to try something different ask for the ""amaro del capo"" liquor. The waiter told me they import it directly from italy. It is just wonderful to see the actual owner of the place come around the check on things rather than like the usual corporate franchise eateries where everything feels so impersonal. Prices are fair, but it can get crowded on occasion... Pros: authentic, food and service, ambience, piano! Cons: not close to T more

Marcellino and Campania rest Best places to eat in Waltham 12/8/2009

Best pasta(true italian) Lobester fra Diavola to die for. The bread is better then the one we had in Italy, authentic antipastai like sopressata homemade and capicollo wich You can't find in stores. Well worth the visit. Also to mention rare wine that we never tasted before abosolutely unique and delicious. Pros: food quality real Italian food family owned Cons: hidden location more

If you were italian you would know! 6/16/2007

Finally, i say finally a place where they serve real italian eatery. Pros: Great hidden location behind moody street, food is excellent Cons: No foreign wines, just italian wines more

Not Worth It 2/19/2007

We were expecting a quiet, romantic Italian restaurant. The tables were packed together so we could barely move our chairs and it was noisy. Some of the dishes were good (chicken, steak) while others weren't (crab cakes, lamb). The mashed potatoes on all of our dishes were cold and bland. The tomatoes in the caprese salad were tasteless. The waiter couldn't tell us the difference between the lamb dishes on the menu. The girl who brought us our check was just wearing jeans. We weren't impressed at all. Not like the reviews we had read. Very disappointing. Cons: Ambience more

Marcellino Has Potential, But Needs Work 1/16/2005

I really want Ristorante Marcellino to be excellent, but it is only ""good."" It has the potential, but standard dishes like Pasta Aglio Olio are often re-interpreted by the chef from meal to meal. When I visited Marcellino for the fifth time, I ordered a mixed green salad that, when it arrived, was clearly Iceburg lettuce mixed with bits of radicchio. I also had the aforementioned pasta dish. Instead of receiving the comfortably spicey/garlic pasta I'd enjoyed in the past, I broke a sweat trying to eat the over-peppered concoction. Marcellino doesn't fall completely short, though. It boasts an intimate dining area that isn't so closely packed as to make you feel like you're eavesdropping on your neighbors' conversation, and there's parking. Pros: great ambience, good parking, not crowded Cons: , little variety, drill sargent service more

Owner Message
  • Salvatore Torcasio and his family opened up Ristorante Marcellino back on March 17, 1997. After nearly three and a half years of bringing fine Calabrese cuisine to Waltham, Massachusetts, they decided to take a short break from the restaurant business.
On November 18, 2002, Ristorante Marcellino re-opened to bring back the fine Calabrese cuisine that so many patrons had been missing. The family owned and operated business strives on the belief that each dish should be made to order using fine ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil, homemade pastas and sauces, and freshly made bread in their wood burning brick oven.Ristorante Marcellino is looking forward to bringing back the traditional Italian cooking that owners Salvatore and Giovannina were brought up with in their hometowns in Calabria, Italy.
