Great food - slow service 1/2/2008

The food here was outstanding - the service was slow. We ordered raw oysters and they took 25 minutes to arrive. We ordered some Gumbo which came out quickly and was delicious and filling. The oyster delay obvioulsy wasn't the server's fault - they had a shucking problem. But, it was New Year's Eve afternoon and they had to expect a crowd - where was the help?\r \r Instead of apologizing for the shucking issue and checking back in with us, our 2 servers were both too embarrassed to come by the table. It's a shame the restaurant put them in this position. When the oysters finally arrived - they were outstanding. We ordered more, but got tired of waiting and called for the check.\r \r If you're going to serve oysters in the French Quarter - you have to be able to get them out relatively quickly! We heard from others that the restuarant is spotty on the service side - sometimes good, sometimes painfully slow. We just came on a slow day - go with some friends when you aren't in a hurry, the food is worth it!! Pros: food Cons: wait more

Perfect dinner 8/2/2007

There are so many restaurants in New Orleans, it's a tall order to narrow down which ones to visit while there. Visit this one for sure. Despite it being in one of the city's most trampled sections, seating and service were great and the food was to die for. The sesame tuna was absolutely perfect, one of the best I've ever tasted. My girlfriend, who after days of NOLA seafood was ready for a steak, got what she said was the best meal of the trip hands down. Both portions were big, bread was great and even though were stuffed, we made one of the best decisions of our eating lives by ordering the chocolate bread pudding. That was quite a finish. I've always loved Jacques-imo's, Desire, Felix's and the like, but this one is deservedly added to that list. more

Perfect oysters! 6/13/2007

I don't think I can ever forget the perfectly fried oysters that I had for dinner here. The service is impeccable too and just a perfect dining experience. Our waiter couldn't have been more gracious during my last visit and he had a genuine sense of excitement and pride to be working there. I wish i could remember his name! I've been back quite a number of times since its Katrina reopening and i must say that they are a beacon of restaurant recovery. This is a must for all tourists so they can get the best NOLA seafood out there. Pros: quality food, service, ambience Cons: parking and occassional ragtag tourists more

great staff, great food, highly recommended. 1/29/2007

We were just there last night (unfortunately, we're back in cold-ass Denver tonight). The Red Fish Grill was our best meal in New Orleans, although the Gumbo Shop was a very close second. We had the BBQ oysters, crusted andouille gulf fish, a really interesting (good interesting) hickory flavored tuna, gumbo, and the double chocolate bread pudding. Our servers (Greg and Paul) were awesome. Very informative, very nice.\r \r We got a ton of food, and the bill was around $90. We're not exactly high rollers, and the food was well worth it. Seriously, just go. And get the double chocolate bread pudding for desert, no matter how full you think you may be. Pros: great waitstaff, excellent food, casual atmosphere Cons: call for reservations, even if it's only two hours. more

Booming after Katrina 12/20/2005

After coming in town yesterday, we were hoping to find some place good and near our hotel in the French Quarter. Of course, we worried that too many restaurants would be closed or otherwise too hard to get into. However, I made reservations at Red Fish Grill. Even with the limited menu, the food was fabulous (we started out with the house salad; then I had shrimp creole and my dining companion had grilled shrimp). All of the food was tantalizing and caused goosebumps. What I remembered from the last time I was in NO was the bananas foster (a unique interpretation of the standard), which was still on the menu and still divinely fabulous. I highly recommend! Pros: Friendly service, Fun atmosphere, Tantalizing food Cons: Can be loud, Hard to find parking more

Great Seafood on Bourbon 8/28/2005

The blackened red fish was excellent and just what I was looking for as my first taste of N.O. I sat in the bar area and people watched as I waited for my food. more

REDFISH ROCKS! 7/10/2005

First NO meal was fantastic! Order the Bourbon Street Sample for appetizer: BBQ Oysters, Crawfish Cakes, Coconut Shrimp and Alligator Sausage! Excellent. Entree's were plentiful and well prepared! Double Chocolate Bread Pudding--one word: HUGE! Great ambience, good service, great time. Pros: Food, Service, Setting more

Great, Fun Dinner on Bourbon Street 6/27/2005

My wife and I had a 7:30 reservation and arrived at 7:00 (30 min early). However, we were seated immediately. Other parties we saw without reservations had about a 30-45 min wait. Get a reservation! We both at the seafood gumbo with alligator sausage... sounds scary, but it was actually very good! For entrees we both ate their famous Sweet Potato Catfish and it was amazing. Enormous piece of fish with a delicate sauce. Not enough room for dessert! We had three waiters serving us! Very fun, atmosphere, not romantic...tables are very close together. Definitely worth going for great fish! Pros: Great Food, Attentive Staff, Large Menu Cons: Loud, Crowded, Tables close together more

It Made Our Trip 6/24/2005

We decided to try this restaurant on the advice of online reviews and recommendations from the hotel staff where we stayed. We ordered red fish and grilled res snapper. Both dishes had generous portions and were well prepared and extremely tasty. Do yourself a favor and save room for the double chocolate bread pudding. I woke up the next morning still thinking about it! The wait staff was well groomed, courteous, prompt and extremely helpful because we are unfamiliar with cajun and creole cooking. We plan to go back if we ever get to New Orleans again. Pros: Service, Food Quality, In French Quarter more

Best Dessert 6/3/2005

The food and service was excellent but they have the best Chocolate Bread Pudding I have ever had. It's absolutely decadent and must be ordered when ordering your food. It's made with white and dark chocolate and is served hot. It's served with two sauces, a white and a dark chocolate ganache. It is definitely for chocolate lovers! more

Among the best in town for seafood 5/21/2005

A must go when in New Orleans. Room is large and there is a great bar with well made drinks at fair prices. If you can get a seat at the bar while waiting for your table consider ordering appetizers, the bartender did not offer them but they are available. They cannot carry over the tab to your table but not a big deal. Fish is the best available and I will return next time I am in town. Pros: Seafood, Service Cons: Busy more

The best! 5/7/2005

This is by far the best seafood restaurant around. I wish we had one in Boston! Pros: Amazing Food Cons: None! more

Always on my list 3/15/2005

Bit of a wait without reservations, but worth it. The drinks were strong, the food delicious and the waiters wereyummy. Headed back this summer. Pros: great drinks, good food more

Great Food! 9/11/2003

I love this place. Try the Oysters 3 Ways and the Double Chocolate Bread Pudding is to die for. Great Service. Great Bar. Strawberry Daquiri was the best I have ever had. Pros: Food, Service, Drinks Cons: Crowded, Noisy more

Yuppy, but yummy 2/13/2003

We loved the food, the wine and the service. The place, however, was packed to the gills - pun intended! Upon entering, your name is placed on the wait list and you're told it will be ""about an hour"". Then you are on your own. If you can find a seat, the bar is fun. When we checked back, after about 45 minutes, we were told to go into the dining room and check in with them. This went on for awhile, until we were finally seated - due to constantly putting ourselves in their faces! Once we got a table, it was fine. I recommend the drum fish! Pros: Lots of wait staff, Fresh seafood, Excellent wine list Cons: Very crowded, Loud, Out in the open more

Yum yum! 7/23/2002

You wouldn't think of it, necessarily, but Red Fish Grill may just have the best burger on Bourbon Street! It's ground in house, I am sure, which makes it so much better. I'd take that burger over another any day! more

Good lunch,value for money! 7/8/2002

We had lunch here, couldn't be better. Nice menu, good food. Especially recommanded: oysters with blue cheese dip. Friendly service, not overdone. We had diner in K.Paul's, good food too,but much higher prices. If I had to choose I would go back for diner to the Red Fish. Pros: very good food, nice atmosphere, friendly service Cons: too far away, (i am from Europe!) more
