Best Ramen in L.A. - As good as in Japan 6/26/2007

I am Cajun by birth... 5th generation in New Orleans, with origins in Lyon, France (my mother, however, is a Dutch imigrant). I've traveled to Europe and Japan (in fact, just got back from Japan a week ago) and if there is one thing I know and am passionate about it is food. Something I know about international foods is that it is VERY hard to get food of any culture as good as it is in its region, outside of its region, much less another country. Such is the case with Japanese food as well, and especially Ramen. I got extremely luck to find Ramen Nippon - as it is very close to my home. It became an instant habit - we went there every friday, at least, ever week for close to 2 years. Why? Simply put, they have at least 2 kinds of Ramen that you can not get or beat anywhere I've been in this country. Tan Tan Men and Negi Ramen. If you like spicy, try the first... if you prefer milder, try the 2nd. It is so good, that it is on par with THE BEST ramen I've had in Tokyo or Yokohama.. and my wife is from there and knows the best places. \r \r Prices have increased over time, but that's understandable. It is still WAY worth the price. \r \r It is a small place with limited seating... and at this point word is out, so don't expect to be seated very quickly during peak times - Friday evenings, for example. Go early, like by 6pm to get a table instantly.\r \r Also, I noticed that on this site it says it isn't kid friendly. That couldn't be further from the truth. We've been going there from since before our daughter was born, to now, and she is 4.5 yrs old. Very frequently she is not the only kid in the place. They have high chairs and kids' cups, bowls, etc., and even books for them. \r \r If you have never had Ramen, start here. If you liked it and want to try more, try Ramen Ya in West L.A., on Olypic just south/west of Sawtel - have the Garlic Ramen - mighty tasty as well. (Ramen Nippon is BEST) Pros: Excellent Ramen, and best Gyoza in town. Fast and courteous service. Cons: Ambiance leaves something to be desired, but you forget about it when you eat. more

SOO GOOD 11/8/2005

I have been going here since i discovered it about 4 years ago! At first, the mainly japanese crowd was a bit intimidating but as i grew more comfortable, it only helped me to believe that this ramen house truly is authentic! The Ramen is amazing, in fact, so good, that I really have not tried anything else on the menu. I deemed this my best ""comfort food"" and ""hang-over food"" because I just love an excuse to come here. The place is sorta small, but I've really never had a wait problem and it's cash-only. If your eating by yourself, a $10 bill should cover it (unless you order more)! Try the combination A (ramen and side fried rice), soooooooooo tasty!!! Pros: Tasty, inexpensive, authentic Cons: small parking lot, hard to find more

amazing 7/23/2005

best broth, best value. I visited all the other ramen places recommended by citysearch, and ramen nippon blows them all away. yip. Pros: amazing broth, great salad, value Cons: no parking, so far away more

Great ramen in the Valley 2/26/2003

There aren't too many places for ramen in the Valley. This is a small hole-in-the-wall location, but serves authentic ramen with good value. You can tell because all the Japanese people come here too! There may be a wait at lunch time, so try to come during non-peak hours. I usually get the miso ramen with chusu ... it's delicious! For those who read Japanese, there's the added bonus of a good selection of Japanese comic books you can read while slurping your ramen! Pros: Grea value, Fast service, Authentic ramen Cons: small restaurant more
