Best food and ambiance ever! 6/15/2011

I recently was in Mt Pleasant on business with my wife. We dined at RB's on Friday, June 10, 2011. We were seated on the lower level next to the window of the harbor. Just after we ordered and appetizer and drinks, my wife's face lit up, there were three dolphins playing in the harbor and stayed most of the time we were there. Sharing a crab meat stuffed mushroom appetizer, which was quite delicious, our entree's arrived. Mine, seared sesame Tuna with sesame sauce and wasabe drizzle. Hers, fried shrimp and sea scallop combo. My tuna, perfectly cooked medium rare and the flavor of the sauces was wonderful. My wife's, not frozen shrimp or scallops lightly battered and fried to perfection. I can agree, service was lax and for the prices should have been stellar. I write professionally for two dot com's, one of which is for seafood reviews in the Atlanta area. Having sampled and reviewed many seafood meals, I would give RB's five stars just for the meal and the show. more

Bad food. Great view. 3/15/2011

The only reason this place subsists is because of its great location. The food is uninspired at best and the service is sub-par. It's truly unfortunate that even though RB's is just a stones throw from the shrimp docks they choose to serve up little frozen imported shrimp year-round. We are hoping the management will wise up and get some good cooks and additional servers so there won't be a long wait for over-priced bad food. We'd love to enjoy the Shem Creek view over a great meal! more

Simply AWFUL 7/7/2010

We were seated outside which was fine. I ordered broiled shrimp and the vegetable fo the day, green beans with carrots. I recieved 6 very small, overcooked, rubber-like shrimp and the vegetables were like rubber as well. The waitress was carrying trash and later carried a full ashtray which she cleaned out with her hands then brought us our food without washing her hands. I have never complained about a restaurant before but this was horrible. My wife's food was equally bad and after leaving we went to McDonald's to get something to get the horrible taste out of our mouths. Anyone that likes this awful food simply either has no taste or has never eaten good food anywhere. Cons: everything more

Tried it Twice 4/6/2009

After hearing the raves about RB's from many, I went and took out of town guests. The service was excellent but the food was less than marginal. Thinking that maybe I chose the wrong time I took other out of town guests to the restaurant. This time the service was as bad as the food. I will not return nor will I recommend this restaurant. Waters' Edge was much superior. Pros: On Shem Creek Cons: Food is as bad as the service more

Best seafood restaurant in Charleston! 6/30/2008

My husband and I recently came to charleston on vacation. It was our first time there in a while and our official first time dining at RB's. From the moment we walked in we felt welcome! The hostess was such a nice young lady and she explained to us about the different dining areas and was very helpul. We decided to eat on the deck, which had an awesome view. Really anywhere you sit in RB's you have a great view! Our server was very nice and answered all of our questions. We had fried calamari for an appetizer and then a side ceaser which was huge! And for our entrees, I had the grilled salmon oscar and my husband had the whole fried flounder. It was delicious! And as if we had any room left for desert..we tried to manage to squeeze in a giant piece of the chocolate cake! Everything from the service to the food was awesome. We are looking forward to our next visit to charleston and RB's!! Pros: Food and service was wonderful! Cons: Too much food! more

Simply good food, whether ""Lowcountry"" seafood or the more creative dishes 8/23/2007

RB's is the oldest restaurant on the creek, though due to a fire a few years back, the building is new. You can arrive by car or boat. Still a favorite with local folks. Can't remember ever having a bad meal there. Fried seafood and ONION RINGS are GREAT! Corona's always ice cold. Just wish they still had the cheddar cheese cornbread. Pros: Convenient location; great for lunch or dinner; eat inside or on the porch overlooking the dock Cons: On busy nights there may be a wait, but same holds true for any good restaurant more
