Pisces

My wife and I tried this place out this weekend, and enjoyed it. The menu selection is limited and seafood is their specialty. We tried the frito misto as an appetizer, the cod and skate for dinner. Everything was very well done and yummy. The portions were small so we both had desserts - bread pudding and spice/pear cake. Both were good, not too sweet, maybe a bit on the light side but still good. Service was outstanding. The restaurant is right on the CalTrain line, and it's a bit noisy when a train goes by, but this was no big deal. It's not cheap; this ran us $90 with tip (no alcohol). This was a nice restuarant and it had a nice feel to it. My boyfriend was in sweats and a t-shirt and they still treated us very kindly. The menu options were not very interesting and did not blow me away. I had the tuna and did not like it. What I did like was the appetizer of calamari... or was that in another restuarant. This was a cool place, but I would not return. Really small. I did not feel as crowded as earlier posts declared. Pisces is an exception to the suburban norm - and within walking distance to boot! Food was divine, especially the small raviolis in broth. The monkfish was perfectly roasted and austerely but elegantly served. Portions are small, as befits a French restaurant (more taste, less quantity). Desserts and cheese plate were indescribably good. Don't know why previous post didn't like service: it was impeccable despite the fact I was in jeans and husband had on a plaid shirt from Mervyns. While the food at Pisces was quite imaginative, it did not live up to its sister restaurant Aqua. The service is what will cause us never to return. SLOW and DISMAL. We were at our table for a good 15 minutes before our server even checked in with us. 1 1/2 hours into our meal and still no main course. Our server did not bother to explain the various courses of the tasting menu, nor did she ever bother to ask how the food was. Also, this restaurant is not child friendly. Honestly I had hoped that the sister to Aqua would be atleast very very good. Too bad it was just average at best. Tried the tasting menu...1st mistake it service was slow, food was not up to Aqua standards. Sandabs were too salty to eat, tuna tartare was good but not great, halibut in parchment was bland. Just disapointed. more

Very good food. I had sands fish and wife had mussels. Very good and very different from what we'd ever had. This chef seems to go out on a ledge when cooking. Service was good. Only bad thing is how close you sit to other table. We had a better conversation with our neighbors than ourselves. Reservations are a must. Pros: Food Cons: Restaurant size more

If this is a ""sister"" to Aqua in San Francisco, then its the redheaded step-child. The restaurant is charming but quite small. If you get a table along the far wall - great. Sadly, we were seated along the crowded gauntlet that is the main seating area. You can almost sit in your neighbors lap; fine if they are engaging or interesting - in our case they were neither. The food was beautifully presented but generally uneven. The fish fritters were sublime - the fried oysters were pedestrian. The sand dabs were tasty but seemed incomplete. I realize this is a seafood place but vegetables are hard to find here. The wine was unremarkable; nothing you wouldn't find at Beverages and More (marked up handsomely of course) Overall, a dining non event. I don't mind spending triple digits on a meal. This place is certainly over rated. The decor is nice but the menu does not offer any thing eye catching. The mussels are tasteless and the salmon is farmed. Service is very slow and they need to update their Port Menu. The only had one of the ports listed! more

This is an excellent place to eat but it is a little pricey. I think it is well worth it. The dessert was fabulous! Pros: romantic, good parking, not crowded more

Food is pretty good, but uneven. Sometimes great, sometimes mediocre depending on day and your choice. Decor really looks great, and they do good soundproofing from Caltrain.
