Great place if you want the Bourbon st experience off of Bourbon. I have had to take clients there twice in the last 6 months & beg anyone coming to the city to venture out of the...

Ode to my liver 11/19/2002

After 31 trips to New Orleans and literally hundreds of visits to Pat O'Brien's, I can say this place is as advertised. Yes, it is touristy. Yes, it is well located. But what you see is what you get. There are stronger drinks, tastier drinks, cheaper drinks in the French Quarter. Pat O'Brien's has that certain atmosphere that brings people together from various cities. The glasses make great (and cheap) souvenirs. Pros: As advertised, Consistent, Flavorful Cons: Unoffensive, Varied crowd more

Rollicking good time 11/17/2002

If you can handle the crowds, go to Patty O's...at least one visit is a must do. See if your gal can drink a drink called a Blo_ Job without any hands & without getting whipped cream all over her face. Be ready to be social & do not forget to tip the bathroom attendants! more

Great 10/24/2002

Romantic, good food and drinks, nice environment, I love it. more

unique! 9/30/2002

For collectors of glassware, this is the place. But you must buy all the different drinks to amass the total set (10!) They do make good decoration for home bar or den. Pros: atmosphere, garden/patio, drinks Cons: crowded, noisy more

sex with an alligator in hurricane land 9/26/2002

Great place to smoke cigars and drink. good bar tender kept us entertained made a shooter "sex with an alligator". We spent seven wonderful hours there. Wish we had one in St. Louis, Mo. We'll be back next time we travel to see my son. more

home of the hurricane 9/19/2002

no visit to New Orleans is complete without a stop at Pat O'Brien's. try the Hurricane! guaranteed to be a fun time!!! Pros: Hurricanes!! more

Another must stop! 7/29/2002

If you like to drink, you must go to this place for some cocktails. For $4-$5 per drink, you cannot beat it. You have to have a hurricane if you go to New Orleans. If you have more than two, someone may need to help you out. I have never eaten an ounce of food here. I consider it strictly a bar and recommend you drink in the garden. It is a great place for early afternoon drinks or late evening drinks. Watch the waiters though! Ours tried to double charge us (my girlfriend paid the bill and he resubmitted it to me). Pros: Drinks, Price, Atmosphere Cons: Service, Crowded more

Popular for a reason 7/26/2002

It may draw the tourists like a moth to a flaming fountain, which can be a downside at times, but there is a reason everyone goes there. The ambiance is reassuringly top-notch, and once you have that, everything else falls into place. more

Commercial but fun 6/10/2002

Right off Bourbon Street, this is a great place to meet all the other tourists. You cant visit New Orleans without ordering a Hurricane from Pat Os and singing at their piano bar but after living in New Orleans for 3 years and visiting every year for over 10 yrs to follow, I've never been back. Plenty of space and fire pit for atmosphere. more

Unbeatable! 6/2/2002

There's a reason they call it a Hurricane! With it's fruit punch taste you really don't notice the rum! But it hits you out of the blue so be aware! Pat O'Brien's has a bautiful courtyard with a large fountain that is lit at night. Great atmosphere! FYI-you can order their drink mixes, glasses, etc. on their website! Pros: Relaxing more

Best Time Ever 5/30/2002

Pat O'Brien's I remember the first time i went there it was for my birhtday and to me as my firts experience going out was great I had just move down to New Orleans. My surprise was when the guy at the Piano Bar calls my name and I stand and he told everyone is my birthday and they all started clapping I was so emberrase but it was fun through out the night I was very please with the service and the atmosphere was just so perfect for a wonderful night out - Pat O' Brien's thanks for the memories !....Ray u too more

A bar for all occasions 5/20/2002

The reason Pat O's has been and always will be one of my favorite bars in my hometown is because you can have almost any kind of experience you want in just this one place. The courtyard is mandatory for hanging out with friends or a date. Feeling a bit more energetic? Head to the piano bar for rollicking singalongs. A more intimate bar area is right across for those who prefer to get cozy. I have nearly a dozen pictures from occasions I celebrated there over the years. For those who think its too expensive, order your drinks in cups rather than the specialty glasses or return your glasses for a couple of dollars back. more

Drinks on the patio 5/12/2002

Go for the tradition, stay for the patio. The outdoor space is actually quite cozy and was a relaxing way to spend an hour or so. more

  • The Scene
A brick-lined entranceway leads to a small, cozy meeting space. It's an intimate place for a quiet drink--if you manage to arrive before it becomes packed with college kids. Directly across sits a much more spacious piano bar with beer steins hanging from the ceiling for a nice decorative touch. Spiral staircases leading up to the bathrooms lend a stately elegance.

    The Draw
The sprawling patio-courtyard area is where the action is; its centerpiece is the famous flaming fountain. Expect tables full of rowdy college kids, tourists and young debs. Although the bloody mary is top-notch, the hurricane is Pat O's signature drink. This heady rum-based concoction is renowned for its potency and the large lamp-shaped glass it comes in. The Courtyard Restaurant serves bar bites ranging from crawfish nachos to catfish strips, and traditional entrees including red beans and rice and jambalaya.
