Worst place to live ever 9/21/2009

Since I moved there I faced problems with my apartment in a daily basis. Leaks and moods all over the ceiling and walls (part of the ceiling even collapsed during my stay); insects all over the place, reaching an average of 6-8 big insects per day during the summer; doors wouldn't close; company personnel extremely rude. The landlord never gave me a feedback about mine complains, I've never thought I would have to deal with such a dishonest company. Pros: There are no pros Cons: company personel, insects, leaks more

Rudest Office I have ever encountered 3/17/2009

Application given, NO follow through, NO checks, NO answers...waiting.....waiting....waiting...\r \r Rude staff.\r \r They charge to apply as do all buildings, how much does one want to pay in fees to apply and apply and never get a word back, and when you call...\r Cons: They do not follow through more

Parkoff: Theiving Cuntlickers 2/25/2009

Lying, thieving c**ksuckers would steal from their own grandmothers. No one ever gets a security deposit back. Super does nothing. Management does less. F--k you parkoff. May you all burn in hell. Pros: I was able to move out Cons: Jesse James used a gun--parkoff uses a lease more

Horrible Management Company 2/25/2009

Please stay away from Parkoff Management buildings! During my time at 97 Arden Street, I had to call 311 several times because the landlord simply would not respond to complaints about plumbing, insects, leaks in the ceiling, mold, etc...\r On moving out, my roommate wanted to stay on for an additional month, for which, as the primary name on the lease, I was bullied and threatened. I still have not received my deposit. I believe this is a criminal operation, and I imagine they could easily be indicted if someone would take up the cause. more

PARKOFF BLDG IN INWOOD - SO FAR, SO GOOD 2/9/2009

Yes, the management takes a lot of pride in fixing up the place, and they even deliver bills so you can hand it into the super w/o having to worry about it getting lost in the mail. When I have something wrong, they are there next thing at 9:00 in the morning. I am new, and I pay more than everyone else, but I do find them very professional. I have yet to get my deposit back, but it's the type of business where you can't keep a lot of people happy. Yes, the super and his assts scream, swear and gossip all day - what else are they going to do? It's Inwood. At least I don't speak Spanish, so I can block it out a little. more

Horrible 2/2/2009

I've lived in a Parkoff building in Queens for the past 2 1/2 years. In that time, the building has steadily deteriorated to the point where it is just gross now. Carpets are stained and filthy, the front steps are cracked and broken, lights stay burned out in the hallways for weeks, and the building has a lovely mold aroma in the warmer months. I've never once seen the building manager on the premises, and while the super is a nice person, they have absolutely no idea how to properly maintain a building. They've also ""lost"" my rent payment twice and sent threatening letters to me in the mail, only to rescind them a day later when they ""find"" my check. Their office staff is less than pleasant. My lease is up in October and I'll be moving far, far away from this Parkoff gem and any other building they own. more

Don't give them your business 1/22/2009

I've dealt with many landlords in my life and Parkoff is certainly the worst. There are plenty of other places to rent from--skip Parkoff. I've lived in a building in Inwood for two years. While the super and his assistants seem like good folks, I can recommend nothing else about Parkoff. From the rude receptionists at the office to the creaky, lousy building to the slooooooooooooow way in which they get around to fixing leaks and other apartment problems, this organization is garbage from top to bottom. I waited 3 months for a simple fix of the oven. Another 2 for a broken buzzer (they told me not to worry, since none of them worked in the building at all). They were supposed to walk through the building to make sure it was in good shape when we moved in, and of course they never did. They don't respond to phone calls--in fact the only way to get a response is to repeatedly badger them. Can't wait to move out and after reading other reviews I'm not expecting to get my deposit back even though we're leaving the place the way we found it. Pros: decent super Cons: everything else more

Parkof Mgmt Abuses old people 12/1/2008

My grandmother and I have been living in a bldg managed by parkoff mgmt. We have been living in this apartment for well over 28 years. Since parkoff has managed the building it has gone from bad to worst. I live on Morris Avenue in the bx, not a great neighborhood but the rent is reasonable. lately we have had terrible leaks in the bathroom ceiling either from the tenants above negligence or just old worn plumbing, either way we have called the office many times to complain. We have spoken from everyone in the maintenance dept. to everyone in the Legal dept. The manager Mr Bob. is such a loser. My grandmother is an old lady that does not speak English so she cannot communicate well with the manager, which by the way I have called myself on numerous occasions and never once has he returned a call. When he comes in the apartment he speak with such authority as if he is gonna tear up the building. I once had to come out and see what was going on that made my grandmother upset. upon asking the mgr what was going on he grabbed his pen and left. he instructed me that if I ever had a complaint not to call the office but speak to the super. Thats another story. The super of our building is never around, the building smells like straight up cat urine. ever ask the super for a repair in the apartmentm his response is he is to busy and he doesnt care if you the call the manager, he says he doesnt care that the manager never comes to the building. So unlike you living in the UES I envy you. I would give anything to have flower smell in the elevator, let alone a floran arrangement. more

Parkoff Org is average - I've lived in MUCH worse! 11/12/2008

I came upon some reviews of the building mgmt company, so I thought I'd share some thoughts. I've lived at 192 East 75th Street for almost 2 years. I think this management company is average (not crazy like my old one!!!) We've never had problems with the ""landlord"" itself. Our superintendent is very nice and if we have a complaint or a problem, he is attentive and always fixes it the same day. Also, until living here, we've never had a super leave a note on our door handle indicating that ""yes, he was in the apartment that day"" and ""that they worked on the problem"". It was nice to know that someone was there while we were at work and actually had the courtesy to let us know - very rare!\r For those who live in the Bronx and Brooklyn, I've never seen those buildings, but from the sounds of it... it seems bad. I know that living in Manhattan's UES shouldn't make a difference, but our building is well maintained, always clean, always well lit (if a bulb is out it's fixed THAT day), smells good, elevator cleaned almost daily, we have weekly flower arrangement delivered in the lobby, etc... And we are in a very pet friendly building too. So even with all of the dogs in our building, it is still clean & well maintained. \r The only issue we had was at the very beginning. Allison (the girl who - I'm guessing handles leasing- or did at the time) was completely unreachable!! We put an application in and didn't hear from her for almost 2 weeks. We kept calling, & calling, & calling to no avail (there was always an excuse as to why she wasn't there....) b/c after all, it's Manhattan - time is of the essence when renting! Other than that, all is good and we love our building (so does our dog!!) \r Hope to the rest of you things get better. I've always had the way of thinking, ""treat people the way you'd like to be treated"". If you are rude to management, they may not play nice! if you are respectable, maybe they'll show you the same respect. \r Pros: nice building, pet friendly, nice super (to me at least!), charming apt's, noise proof! -seriously Cons: we could use more closet space! bathroom water pressure is WAY off - needs work more

2765 Matthews Ave 9/29/2008

THE WORST BUILDINGS!! The people at the Parkoff Management company are just horrible people. They do not care at all about their Tenants living conditions. I'd not recommend anyone to apply for any of the buildings the Parkoff Mgmt. has to offer. Trust me mere looks may be deceiving but nothing compares to the way these people treat you. I lived at one of their building on Matthews Avenue, Bronx, NY for 6 years and it is indescribaly distguisting and dangerous. Cons: See above more

Worst management company real estate has seen in years, award goes to Parkoff 9/15/2008

The only reason Parkoff gets a star from me is because I can't post this review without one.\r I live in one of Parkoff's buildings in Inwood. The grounds and the hallways are the only areas that are cared for. The super is a defensive lazy man who likes to stand outside the apartment and gossip with his assistant as tenants come out. He is rude to women and friendly to men which I assume is out of fear on both counts. His assistant has been accused of being inappropriate in women's apartments when he's gone in for repairs and has been banned from entering some.\r I have heard from many tenants that they rarely come round and do repairs requested, which is my personal experience as well. The super has been asked many times for repairs by my roommate and has been responded to rudely and brushed off. \r Parkoff management seems to only authorize repairs if they can be sued if they don't do it and often times tenants have to take them to court to get repairs or paint jobs, etc. Their staff at the office is so used to hearing from enraged tenants that they simply tune them out. \r They're notorious for not giving back deposits as well. I've heard one has to actively pursue Parkoff for months after moving out to receive deposits even when the tenant was exemplary and left the apartment in good shape.\r From what I've read from these other reviews and from listening to other tenants and my own experiences, Parkoff specializes in hiring the laziest, rudest, inappropriate people they can find. They only goal is to follow housing laws at their minimum and take take take from the tenants. They should be ashamed, but I know they aren't. I love the idea of Karma, I hope Parkoff comes back as a very poor tenant trapped in a horrible housing situation. Pros: the grounds are kept nicely Cons: the super and assistant, management and employees in the office, lease and practices more

THE WORST PLACE TO LIVE ON THE PLANET 8/19/2008

Please...Please...Please...DO NOT RENT AN APT IN A PARKOFF OWNED BUILDING!!!!!! I lived in 2705 Bainbridge and I will tell you the truth... the building is a nice on and the super does keep it clean... however he can only do for you apt what the management company/JASON okays him to do! The funny thing about it is that they never allow him to do anything. I lived in the building for a total of 3 yrs. Each year I witnessed my apt go from bad to worst. When we did the walk through with JASON (the world worst bld mngr). It was a Friday in August and he was at the least happy to be doing the walk through...he came with a friend and was dressed in sneakers and had a basketball under his arm. We went threw the whole apartment. We agreed on the things that needed to be changed and he agreed that it would be handled....it never was! And when I contacted him via pager (which takes him up to 12 pages to get back in touch with you...yes i paged him 12 times) he was angry and upset that i paged him and then he proceeded to tell me that if i did it again he would never call me back again and that he couldnt help me I had to get in touch with another dept.. so I did they proceeded to tell me that he has to come out and see.. I explained the whole story.... TO BE HONEST NOTHING WAS EVER DONE IN THE APT FOR THE THREE YEARS I WAS THERE!!!! it was the worst living situation EVER!!!! I wouldnt ever rent from another PARKOFF BLDG EVER IN MY LIFE! I would rather live in the street than ever rent from them agian!\r Cons: NASTY PLACE AND REPS more

Looks ARE deceiving 4/1/2008

I moved to 2805 almost a year ago. The bldg. looks well-kept and the super seems very friendly when you meet. The problem? You end up having to fix your own apartment problems because the super always tells you he will be back later and never makes it back and when you contact the office you always have to leave a message for someone that does not return phone calls. I would never recommend this management to my friends, and trust me I have plenty of them looking for a good place at the moment. I have always felt is a shame for people not to understand the importance of customer service, isn't keeping your clients happy what keeps the money flowing?\r \r Not recommended-Looks ARE deceiving! Pros: Clean bldg. Cons: Super does not follow-thru very often more

Highly recommendation 2/27/2008

There will always be bad seeds when you own several properties. I lived in Parkoff building in Brooklyn and I have to say they take great pride in maintaining there properties. Management was great and the super was always helpful. If I had to move back into a building it would be a Parkoff Property. Pros: Parkoff property anytime Cons: Those other reviews seem like losers more

Now it's official. Parkoff has stolen my security deposit . Wow, look at all the bad reviews. There were only 3 when I first posted mine now 17! 12/22/2007

I have never been involved with such an unprofessional building management company. All of a sudden there are positive postings. Gee, I wonder who encouraged those? No one spends precious time reviewing a landLord unless they are unhappy. I never received my security deposit back nor even a letter about why they were keeping it and how much it was worth after 9+ years of interest. I never ever received a check or statement, any year that I lived there, showing where my money was being kept and how much interest it earned each year. It's hard to prove a negative, I know. The most unprofessional thing I think I have ever encoutered is that apparently sometime after I was forced out, and posted a review on here, the building manager came to my old apartment in an angry state about my review on here and asked the current tenant where I was.To what end? I can only asume he was going to threaten me to remove this review which is well within my First Amendment rights to post or even worse,I suspect he was going to me bodily harm. The pimp in the apartment below me threatened me with bodily harm for no reason 13 times the last year I lived there and Parkoff and the building manager did NOTHING to remove him and he is still there. Interestingly, he apparently does not harrass the fellows in my old apartment which leads me to conclude that the building manager was not unhappy to have me forced out by the angry man below me because obviously the rent went up when I terminated my lease within the time frame of my 60 day rider. I lived there for 8 years with not one complaint about me from below, above or sideways,or the Super or anyone in the building. Of course in my new digs, after 5 months of homelessness! I have not received one complaint from anyone around me or in the building this first 1 year+. I see from most of the reviews David Friedman is the primary problem with tenant's.I concur I wonder how he lives with himself. No conscience or really just a BAD human being. Pros: Wonderful neighborhood and the Super is super, building very clean, but he was there before Parkoff took over. Cons: Terribly nasty building manager and ownership. The rob and steal & choose pimps over good tenants. more

Deplorable Living Conditions/Don't fix anything 12/22/2007

I have lived for some time now in Brooklyn and this building management by far is the worst, especially the building at 401 Schenectady. Run away quickly don't walk, this building houses RODENTS (some big ones). \r \r The building manager David Freidman is a snake, he will laugh and smile and cajole you into signing a lease and then you can never find him to make repairs. It is all a big joke many promises and no action, the elevator is filthy (yes people urinate in it) but that is not my problem as a tenant it is the building management's problem to ensure that I live in clean and a secure environment. After all I am paying to live there.\r \r When you do have repairs done it is always shoddy and cheap work. One of the people contracted to work on the building actually told me that the building manager is cheap and does not want to spend any money to up keep the building. And this is despite the high monthly rental they charge their tenants to live in these apartments.\r \r Don't believe the hype you receive from this building, David Freidman, the office, Parkoff Management or 401 Realty LLC they are no better than slum lords well actually a little better, but just a bit. \r \r R U N A S F A S T A S Y O U C A N F R O M P A R K O F F M A N A G E M E N T - 401 R E A L T Y LLC Pros: in Brooklyn Cons: David Freidman more

Parkoff Management is a SlumLord 7/16/2007

Parkoff Management manages many buildings in upper Manhattan in the Inwood/Washington Heights area. BEWARE- I have been a tenant of one of their buildings for over 5 years, and I have had to take them to housing court to fix a hole in my ceiling that was leaking for over TWO YEARS. Now (one year later), the hole is back. Additionally, they're now trying to raise my rent over 31% in my lease renewal. My building is Rent Stabilized, and according to DHCR Rules, the rent can only be raised 7.5% annually. I have contacted Parkoff repeatedly for the last 2 weeks, trying to get someone to explain to me how the lease could go up so much, and (surprise) I cannot get anyone there to return my phone call or email. I know many of the tenants in my building are having similar problems. My advice to any potential renters... DO NOT RENT in any building owned by Parkoff Management!!! Cons: non-responsive employees, unclean living conditions more

Awful customer service at Parkoff 4/22/2007

I recently tried to bring my neice, who happens to be in a wheelchair, into a Parkoff-owned building at 192 east 75th street. There's a dentist's office on the first floor and it has a wheelchair lift. However, the wheelchair lift was broken, so I couldn't get my neice down the four stairs. The receptionists said that the lift is broken a lot and they've received complaints, but there's nothing they can do about it because they don't operate the lift. I looked into it and found out that PARKOFF MANAGEMENT owns the bldg and manages the lift. When i called them, i left a message explaining the situation but never got a return call. I called back three separate times and finally got a woman named Linda who said it wasn't her problem and that she just deals with the tenants. I think it's awful to advertise something as handicapped-accessible when it's really not. It's uncomfortable for the person that's handicapped and aggravating for those who try to fix the situation and are told there's nothing they can do. PARKOFF needs to pay more attention to their building and the people coming in and out of it. Cons: very rude management more
