I've been going to O'Connor Hardware since I was a kid and now I'm 56 years old. This is a local family owned business so dear to the surrounding communities that people rebled against and stopped a proposal to build a Home Depot in Billerica. They care about their employees and I know many who have worked there for decades. The floor employees are very knowledgable in their areas and I'll give you 2 examples. I had a problem with clovers all over my lawn and the regular doses of weed killer didn't have any effect. I went to O'Connors to find out what to do and a young man handed me a Scott's product, which ended up working. We talked about lawn care and I was impressed at how much he knew and he told me that O'Connor's sent him to Scott's School on lawn care and products. The second problem was water damage to my swirled plaster over blue board ceiling. I knew how to cut out the old blue board and replace it but not how to redress the swirled ceiling so it would blend in. The man i more

I've been going to O'Connors since we moved here 20+ years ago. The first time I visited the Tower Farm Rd location, I couldn't believe the variety of items a hardware store carried - they even had christmas wrap and bows! In their Boston Road store, they literally have everything except groceries! Plus everyone seems like they enjoy working there and helping customers. That factor alone will keep me going - they hire local people who are still around the next time you come in with a question, and they seem to care about their reputation, their community and their customers. more

I've been going to O'Connors since 1988 (when they were on Tower Rd.). The store is staffed with former contractors and people who have real knowledge. Whoever left the comment about what-evah high school kids has had an experience that I NEVER have had. This is TruValue's largest store in the country, I believe. They got there by getting it right: having knowledgeable staff -- in abundance -- in the store sections, plenty of inventory (even pretty obscure parts) and plenty of young lady (I've NEVER seen a guy doing that job...) checkout clerks. more

I moved to Billerica 3 years ago and have shopped in Home Depot and Lowes in addition to O'Connor's. I find the salespeople at O'Connor's to be very knowledgeable and friendly. If they don't have what I'm looking for, they order it. The saleswomen are willing to help find an item, not just point to an aisle, and offer their own personal experiences with products they may have used. Yes, some of the salesmen are older and may seem unapproachable but ask them a question and they prove they're not as they may appear. They explain things or services well, offer suggestions and ideas and prove to be a wealth of knowledge and experience. I find the check-out people are friendly as well. Are there things I will need from the other two hardware stores? Sure, but I'll check O'Connors before heading out to them. Oconnors is the best - no doubt about it. I have lived in Billerica for 15 years and have shopped there the whole time. there is always somebody there to help you. the staff is very friendly and knowledgable. more

I am a relatively new home owner who moved in the area 3 years ago. Everyone told me to go to OConnor's and how great it was. So, I took the advice and by now have spent thousands of dollars there buying major items like mowers, snow blowers, etc. In the beginning I had some mixed experiences but I tried to look past the occasional bad service or misinformation and continued shopping there. However by now I have decided that going to HD/Lowes is much much much better ideas. OConnor's staff is not very helpful, if you can find them, The staff consists of mostly old guys who are rude, condescending and disrespectful, the younger staff members are just clueless with a don't care attitude. They also don't seem to know the products they are selling and I have had to return several parts/products because I took their advice. I have been called an idiot by one of their service guy, the manager is probably a former used car salesman (clueless about the concept of customer service). So, do your more

I would like to deal with a few qualified employees than a building filled with "What - Ev-ah" High school kids who all seem to want to be somewhere else. There are qualified people looking for jobs right now! more

I have been going to Oconners for years, I love there service, although it is hard for them to compete with the bigger chains prices, there service and attention is unbeatable, I would recommend going to Oconners. They are located in a really nice plaza, with lots of other good stores too, nice big parking area, great playground for the kids behind it more

I like shopping at O'conners hardware, they are very professional, friendly and clean, I like how they have been in Billerica for years, a nice little mom and pop store more

This hardware store is a good distance from my home but it's the first place I think to go when I need anything as they always have it in stock. You can't walk thru the store without someone offering to help you find something. Their prices are very reasonable and their hours are great too. And they even give out free popcorn on the weekends - the kids love to go now! They have many large tools/equipment that you can rent also so it gives you an alternative to the big home improvement stores. more
