A couple of years ago, I switched dental plans and the plan I went to was not accepted at my current dentist's office. I went to this dentist, as he was close to home and a plan dentist. When I went for my checkup, I found that I had a cavity on a back tooth. After getting the filling I went up to pay my copay. The staff told me that my dental plan would not cover the filling, as my plan only covered the silver fillings and not the white fillings. I told them I was not told that he would not be using the filling that was not covered by my insurance and at that time I was told he only uses the white fillings as the "hold better" and that I should have asked. After arguing with them for a good 20-30 minutes that I had never seen him before the visit before that, and that I had only ever gotten the silver fillings in my back teeth (where the cavity was) and I didn't know that they didn't use them, that it was there job to ask my permission before completing the procedure on me, since it was not covered by insurance and that at no time, was it ever mentioned that it was not covered prior to that time. They finally agreed to bill it under the silver filling, but I have not returned, nor will I ever.
