The reason I give this restaurant only 2 stars because they are not honest. \r The food is good. I like the atmosphere. Most waiter and waitresses are nice, especially Jose. The worst one is the older waiter. I don't know what his name is but he is the oldest there. He acts like he is too good for the job, even he's there for years. \r I used to go there often, sometimes with large groups, sometimes just with my husband. A few times, when I was with my husband, I thought the bill was a little more than it should be but I let it go. Until, my friend told me they don't go to Nhu Y anymore because they always ""overcharged"" them and told me to be careful when I pay if I go there. The next time, I was there with my husband, we ordered a hotpot with drinks. When they gave us the check, we noticed they charged us 30.00 instead of 25.00 as it was listed on the menu. I asked them and they said made a mistake they thought it was a baked fish. Two weeks later, we came back again, same thing happened. We asked them about the bill and we got the same answered, unbelievable! We felt cheated. We couldn't help but wonder how many time did they ""made mistakes"" when we were with large groups. \r We don't go there anymore. If you go to Nhu Y, CHECK YOUR BILL before you pay. more

Nhu Y...name sounds nice, but gosh, I will never go there again. The setting looked nice when we got there. One waiter seated us nicely and politely. Then another waiter came out to take the order, and he didn't sound very pleasant. At first, I just said to myself, they are busy now, so he's probably just stressing with all the orders. Then when he took the food out later, he kind of set it down hard. I was afraid that the fish sauce or the food would spill on me. My boyfriend put the rice in the bowl for me first, then while he was getting his, I saw something moving. At first, I thought it was just my eyes. I looked closely at the rice, and it was a tiny white worm-like thing moving around. I asked my boyfriend if it was true. He looked at it and asked the waiter to replace the rice. We ordered some soup and the water base tasted kind of sandy. Not sure if the water is not clean or if the seafood in it was not washed clean. At first, I thought he was taking me to a nice pretty place with some good vietnamese food, but starting when the food came out until we left, I couldn't smile at all. I wanted us to have some nice time together that night, but the food just spoiled everything. My boyfriend was going to take me to his parents' home to visit after that, but I didn't feel good. I told my boyfriend I wasn't feeling well, so he took me home. When I got out of the car, I just threw up and my stomach didn't feel well all night. I think I threw up like 4 times that night. At least he knew I was sick and couldn't visit his parents instead of thinking that I didn't want to go visit his parents. I think this restaurant has some good choices for food, but there is definitely something wrong with the kitchen. It needs some major cleaning up I think. more

I've been there many times with friends and family, and this restaurant is, without a doubt, among the top Vietnamese restaurant in the OC area. Their decor is very lively, with running water and colorful lights everywhere....feels like a mini las vegas. I agree with the previous reviewer about the wide selection of food -- i'm guessing something over 300 items -- but my favorite has to be their ""ca 8 mon"" (or 8 courses of fish). The food is very good and unique. The only dislike I have is wait time....they are busy during the weekends, so it's def. a good idea to make reservation. Overall, very good restaurant & food, and friendly people.\r \r pro: Good food, lively place, nice people.\r \r Con: wait time.\r \r \r By the way, to the reviewer Tawny714... \r \r Judging from your writing, you seem mentally unstable and should seek emotional help. The fact that you go out of your way in a ""restaurant/food review"" to say that the owner wears a lot of makeup says it all....\r \r The many, many times I've been to this restaurant, the people there have been wonderful (Jose rox!), and the lady owner is very nice. I don't think they would have this many customers (most are brobably returning customers) if they have bad service/food as you said. more

Nhu Y Ca 8 Mon Restaurant is the popular place for 7 courses of beef or fish. Jose is our great host and he always dropped by to say hi, make sure we got the right orders or enjoy our meal. I luv 7 courses of beef and it's one of my favorite food. Jose always have a friendly smile and can speak different foreign languages. more

My Family and I, we really retreasure Jose soo much because he's a very good host, very friendly and he always has a smile on his face. He always makes sure he takes our orders right...he's the best and a great host! When we go in, we always ask for Jose. He comes around and says "" Is everything alright ok? Can I help you with anything else?"" \r \r I love the food there!!! my favorite vietnamese place to go! My favorite to order all the time is 7 courses of beef!! yummy! :) more

I've read a lot of reviews about restaurants, but never submitted one before, but after I heard that some of my friends, who I really care about, wanted to go to Nhu Y Restaurant in Fountain Valley, I thought, I must let them and everyone else know my experience there. I used to like this restaurant, but a few months ago (I know, I should've said something earlier) I went there with my husband and had a big fight with the employees there. There were little white worms crawling in the rice. We let the waiter know and he took it away and said ""it's just a small worm"". Another waiter even said in vietnamese, ""sometimes when we pick vegetables from our gardens, there's little worms in there that we can't see and don't know also."" I guess they think it's still okay to serve the food like that. Never heard any apologies. And we got a bill for it too. We refused to pay just the dish that had the worm. We didn't see anything in the other dishes and we did eat it all , so we thought we should pay it, but there still could've been worms in there. But we couldn't see why we had to pay for the other dish that had a worm in there. My fiance even left tip on the table for them. Why? I don't know, except that he is very naive and kind. But the lady at the cashier, the one with a lot of makeup on and her face looks so unreal, was very mean to us. She called me names and said we're ""vietnamese"" so why are we treating each other like that. Isn't every guest there PEOPLE? Aren't we all HUMAN? I felt so stupid for even staying there to argue with them and even paying the bill. I should've just walked out and called the police or something. And now that I think about it, we should've informed the Health Dept also and ask them to please check that kitchen. I guess my husband and I just like to live a quiet peaceful life, so we just let things go sometimes, but it really hurt us sometimes. As long as we have each other, it doesn't matter what they say or where we eat. We can elsewhere. more

My girl friend and I, by recommendation from our friends, finally dined at this establishment. We are happy to say that we have found our new favorite restaurant. The service was great. The waiter we had was very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is family-oriented with the outdoor garden decors. The place is roomy enough. The restrooms were very clean ... a must. The food was delicious. The menu looks like a book with almost 300 items to choose from. There are five pages of drinks, beers & cocktails. The one negative thing was that we had to wait about thirty minutes for a table. After asking, apparently they are really busy during the weekend. Maybe, we'll go back there on a week day.\r We highly recommend anyone to try this great Vietnamese restaurant... You won't be disappointed. Pros: Parking area is spacious. Service is tremendous. The host is great. See Jose. Cons: Had to wait a while for our table. The place was packed. Should call ahead for reservation. more
